Page(1-0)/Northeast Guilford(0-1)

The Page boys led by Diondre Overton with 17 points and Jalen Seegars with 16 points….Tyren Melton added 13 points for the Pirates….Page played without the services of Ty Graves who is out with a sore knee and should be back soon and Page also played without big man Xavier-Hill Mais who is tending to internal matters and who like Graves, should be back soon and both are on the day-to-day list…Also on the list were Brandon Talton and Will Jones who played very well coming in off of the Page Pirate bench and Coach Matt Harder was very pleased with their efforts for the Pirates….Talton and Jones had 4 points each for Page….Mitchell Hurd was a fan favorite with 5 points off of the bench in a reserve role and big David Funderburg got a start and pumped in 7 points and had some blocked shots….Sterling Smith also found himself in a starting role and he was good for three points for Page….That should add up to the Page men with 67 points and again, Overton and Seegars were in mid-season form tonight…..

For Northeast Guilford and these come in from the NEG book, you had Jeremiah Praylor with 12 points, Jones has 9, while Huntley, Lambert and Grant had six points each….Justice and Bowers added 2 and 1 point to complete the Ram scoring….Game end of 1st Quarter:Page 18, NEG 11…Halftime:Page 29, NEG 20…End of 3rd Quarter:Page 46, NEG 28….Tyren Melton had 4 three’s for Page….

Girls game wrap is now in progress……

The Page women were led in part by Campbell Kargo who led the entire crowd in the singing of the National Anthem prior the men’s game and this was crazy-good….Outstanding job by Campbell Kargo and to me this was one of the highlights of the night….I mean she took it solo and she is out with injury for the Page girls, but she(Campbell Kargo) still found a way to contribute on this night…

Page girls led in scoring by Bailey Kargo with 17 points, Roxanne Pfenning had 7, Emma Heard had 6, Tiana Sherman hit for four, Amari Jackson pumped in 4, C. Patterson was there with four points, Janie Pearce hit two free throws for two and Jillian Heard rounded out the scoring with 2 points for the Pirates….

Northeast was paced by Dinah Neal with 15 points, Nichelle Jeffries had 8, Ariel Ellis was on for 4 and Henderson had one point for the Rams…..

Women’s game it was Page and NEG tied at 5-5 after one period….Halftime:Page 20, NEG 10….End of the 3rd Quarter:Page 29, NEG 18….
(Emily and Ava Casper where missing from Page due to a death in the family.)

More details on both games coming as we get them and we are adding scores….Next game for Page will be next Tuesday at Eastern Guilford…..Wildcats and Pirates next Tuesday night at EG…..

*****On HG3/Harry Giles and WES in their win over Providence Day, 60-58 it was a battle all night long for HG3 and Tim Donelli filed this report with the Charlotte Observer:
With all the attention on the 6-foot-9 Giles, the best player on the floor this night might have been Providence Day’s Grant Williams, a 6-7 junior. Williams led all scorers with 26 points and battled all night with Giles underneath.

“We love to compete against each other,” Williams said. “We were competing with each other; talking, we have known each other for a long time so it’s fun to play against him.”

Giles was the game’s second-leading scorer 21 points, while Jalen Johnson added 14 and Michael Buckland 10 for the Wesleyan Trojans.*****

  1. Just want to say a good game tonight at smith. Smith boy really really hustled and scrapped for every loose ball. They don’t have a lot of height this year, but they are making up for it by never giving up on a play, attacking the basket and just all around playing team ball. Hope this is a sign of good things to come!!!

  2. Quayson Williams with 35 points and Deshaun Taylor with 29 points and 16 rebounds…

Full details in a separate post….

  3. Funderburg is in the house and we have to go by the PA men and women early in the year until we learn all of the names and Dale Holder was on the money with this, we just had Lawrence Funderburke in our head instead…
