Hexter Announces the Signing of Five Players for Elon Women’s Lacrosse

ELON, N.C. – Elon head women’s lacrosse coach Josh Hexter has announced the signing of five players to the Phoenix squad for the 2015-16 school year. Shannon Horan (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham), Erin Morsheimer (Millersville, Md./Archbishop Spalding), Amanda Romano (Montclair, N.J./Montclair), Miranda Rosenfeld (Fairfield, Conn./ Fairfield Ludlowe) and Grace Simpson (South Hadley, Mass./Williston Northampton) have all signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Phoenix beginning with the 2016 season.

“This year’s class of signees is incredibly talented both on the field and in the classroom,” said Hexter. “Although there are only five in the class, they are incredibly fast, tough and motivated young women. We are looking forward to beginning a new journey with them next fall when they arrive on campus.”

Horan, a 5-9 defender, is a four-year varsity lacrosse and soccer team member. Team captain in 2014, she is also a two time all-county honoree. Horan helped the team to three county finals and Group 3 state finals from 2012-14, while the team also won the conference championship in 2012 and 2014. On the soccer field, she was also the team captain, earned all-county honors twice and was named the team’s most outstanding player as a senior, while helping the team to a conference championship in 2011. Shannon is the daughter of Mark and Ann Horan.

Morsheimer, a 5-9 defender, is a four-year member and three-year starter for the Archbishop Spalding varsity team. The team’s captain, she was named to the schoolgirls D.C. metro team 4. Off the field, Morsheimer was named a U.S. Lacrosse academic all-American in 2014. She also earned second team all-county honors as a member of the field hockey team. Off the field, Morsheimer is on the honor roll, a member of the National Honor Society and was named the practical economics student of the year. Erin is the daughter of Mark Morsheimer and Lisa Hale.

Romano, a 5-9 midfielder, is a four-year varsity lacrosse and soccer team member at Montclair. Named lacrosse team captain as a senior, she has 53 career goals, 27 assists and 72 ground balls. Romano helped the team to the New Jersey Group 4 sectional semifinals last season and was named all-league first team, an academic all-American and to the New Jersey schoolgirls team. Also a team captain on the soccer team, Romano earned all-conference honorable mention in 2013 and helped the team to the state sectional championships in 2011 and 2012. Amanda is the daughter of Jose and Amy Romano.

Rosenfeld, a 5-7 midfielder, is a three-year varsity lacrosse and soccer team member at
Fairfield Ludlowe. A team captain, she was named second team all-FCIAC in 2014. Rosenfeld earned soccer FCIAC honorable mention as both a junior and senior and was a member of the all-state track relay team. Academically, she has been on the honor roll for four years. Miranda is the daughter of David and Katy Rosenfeld.

Simpson, a 5-3 midfielder, is a five-year lacrosse and six-year soccer varsity team member at Williston Northhampton. A lacrosse team captain, she was named to the New England Prep School Athletic Conference All-New England team in 2013. Simpson also served as the soccer team captain and was honored as a Western New England Prep School Soccer Association All-Star. Grace is the daughter of Jeffrey and Pamela Simpson.
