High School Basketball Tonight for the Guilford County/Area teams on 12/2/14

Asheboro at Southeast Guilford 6pm….SEG girls look like they are going to be OK this season and they are off to a decent start…Katie Lewis giving the Falcons a good pop/punch after the loss of Kara Shutt…Phifer still in the flow too for Falcons….
High Point Central at Southern Guilford 6pm….SG girls will compete, but HP Central girls are still searching and the boys game will be a battle, with SG ready to go after it under new head coach Evan Fancourt and HPC has some excellent athletes that have come over from the football team…
North Davidson at Page 6pm…Page boys already have two losses and are still trying to find themselves and with Seegars and Overton, that is always a good place to start and they can use Xavier Hill-Mais when he is ready to jump into service for the Pirates….Page girls have the Kid Kargo Show and more to go around, young but very hungry squad…Heard twins and Ava Casper are young, but they should help out..
Northwest Guilford at Northern Guilford 6pm….In a breakdown manner, NWG boys are all guards and no posts, and the NG Nighthawks are all posts and no guards….Usually the speed of the guards will win out and last week that is what happened at NWG…NG posts with Hildreth, Gibson and Emerick can hurt you, but NWG with Spicer, Gore, Covington, Henry, Turner and Davis can burn you…If I had to pick out a “Shocker of the Week”, from last week, it would be the shooting displayed by Sam Covington…Had not heard much of the ‘Sam Hill’ out of Sam C. before last Tuesday night, but Sam C. can hit the three and many other shots to go with it…You know what you are going to get from Spicer, Gore and the other Vikings, but with Covington, I would say that is a boost and that is just my two cents worth there….Girls game was 55-52 last week and since I was at these games, we writing a bit more about these today….NWG ladies came out hot with Tucker, Neas, Pointer, Barber, Newman, Moore, Wallace and more Vikings taking turns leading the way…Tucker can get real hot in streaks and burn you up and the entire team moves the ball well and they hit their free throws down/during the stretch run to put the game away last Tuesday at the Roger Nelson Gym….NWG has to stay focused and play hard/play with the same intensity the entire game and they will be fine…NG led by the freshman Cunnane, Sydney Wilson and her ball handling and Kasey Johnson and her scoring, plus Sami Furlough and her outside shooting….The other freshman whose last name begins with an R(Kassie Robakiewicz) and we will have to look it up every time we go with it in print, she can put up points too….Isolate Cunnane and she could go insane….Cunnane will be the biggest girl on the court, but watch her shoot free throws, going to good for 75% and Morgan Pointer from Northwest Guilford is an excellent free throw shooter too…Both Cunnane and Pointer are bigs and they are big-time free throw shooters…..Maybe too much breakdown on this game, but NWG should have more balanced scoring with at least 7 girls that will contribute and watch for Cunnane, she will have at least one 30-point game before the end of this 2013/2014 season….
*****On to our other games and we need to be hitting the street soon….*****
Ragsdale at Western Guilford 6pm….Looking to attend this game for the chance/opportunity to see Western Guilford….Have seen Page, NEG, NG, NWG, Grimsley, Ragsdale already and need to get a look at the Hornets….Boys game, Hornets have a load of capable scorers when all are healthy and Ragsdale can run and the Free kid, Brian Free, he is a sophomore for the Tigers and when you see him out there you won’t believe it, but then you have to see him to believe in him…Fun to watch the young man play….Parker and Quick have to step up quick for the Tigers to give them a chance to win games on both ends of the court…..Ragsdale is missing Daniel Kanakanui and James Stepp more than they thought they would…Need to see both WG boys and girls in action to get a good evaluation for what is going on out there…
Smith at High Point Andrews 6pm…Smith getting used to the post-JJ Watson days and many Golden Eagles are beginning to step up and take on the load and they will need Pratt, White, Lowe and all on go tonight in High Point….The Smith girls are coming around and Destiny McCollough seems to be taking on the leadership role for the ladies right now and HP Andrews will not go away after last year’s 2-A Title and Coach John Shearin has no intentions of sharing the titles, he wants to keep them all in High Point, at TW Andrews…..
Southern Durham at Dudley 6pm……Dudley boys and girls teams are both keeping a low profile right now, but look for them to make a lot of noise with both the girls and boys, once this season gets cranking up…Last I saw the Dudley girls were (0-2) and that is not going to stay that way and I didn’t see Essence Abraham in the box score of the last game and she is the glue that holds this team together….Boys will run with Hooker and Seagraves, but other kids will be the key to getting the Panthers over/to the top….
Wheatmore at Southwest Guilford 7:30pm….Going to get your money’s worth with the Langley brothers, KJ and Kameron, while Ben Ferguson and Kaymon Mitchell will give you shots that will keep you in those tight/tough games….(Boys only here, from what we hear.)
Providence Day at Greensboro Day School 4:30pm….Lady Bengals in good shape with Tamera Thorpe, who had 34 points last time out and the boys go strong with Agba, Moore, Mayo, Dillard and others and this boys team will never be accused of not playing hard…New assistant coach on the Bengal bench this season in Christian Pulliam….He was one heck of a point guard back in his day as a GDS Bengal…
Wesleyan Christian Academy at Durham Academy 5:30pm…..Seems to be no stopping this Trojans team(6-0) as of right now, with a five that just about anybody around would die for, with Harry Giles III/HG3, Kwe Parker, Brandon Childress, Jalen Johnson and Michael Buckland….
American Hebrew Academy at the Trinity School 5:30pm….No details on this and we will be looking…
McMichael at Reidsville 6pm….Reidsville will have the football players back and MAC should still have David Price and maybe one of his sons as the assistants and Coach Price’s nephew is the head coach…..MAC currently has a former Phoenix player playing for Coach Brian Galuski at Greensboro College….Kids first name is Eldrick, and I’ve got to go get that last name to go with it…*****This game has been postponed and will be rescheduled for a later date.*****
Vandalia at Faith Christian 6pm….Vikings at the Eagles, with Noah Dunn being the captain of the Viking ship so far this season and from what we are being told, Dunn is just a freshman…Dunn going for right at 20ppg early on….
North Wilkes at Bishop McGuinness 6:30pm…..Spencer Wilson and Villains are ready to jump it up in Kernersville tonight and I will put my money on Kaleb Money to send us a report, at game’s end…..We’ve got to get Spencer Wilson on one of these All-State teams this year…The kid is soft of like a ‘Basketball Ambassador’….Reminds me a bit of Nathan Jameson from over at Wesleyan a few years back….Nathan Jameson was a good one and later played at UNCG….Danielle Nieters is the ladies leader and they have plenty more to go with her….Coach Robinson is not a coach without key players, he has them and is not afraid to turn them loose…
New Garden Friends at Forsyth Country Day…..Saying 7:30 on this start time and this will be a very good test for the Bears, going into the camp of the Furies and head coach Howard West….Wonder if the kid from High Point Central that left and went to FCD, wonder if he is still still there??? Not Woody Cornwell, because remember Woody left HP Central for Tuscola to play QB, a few years back…The hoops kid that went to FCD was a scorer and he may have re-classed….Just trying to learn the new names of the players for the NGFS Bears….Sure miss the good old days Kanayo Obi-Rapu and Mr. Ikena Smart….
Westchester Country Day at Carolina Friends TBA

*****There’s a load for you and read it and let us know what/how you are feeling on this basketball Tuesday.*****

  1. Expecting a real battle between NG/NWG boys. NW shot lights out in 1st meeting, not just Sam but others too. Both teams are well coached, and NG will likely be better prepared for NWG’s traps and presses this time around.

  2. Going to be a big time game at GDS. One of the assistants told me Stanford will be there to see big guy for Providence Day. Providence has lost to Huntington Prep by 1 and Wesleyan by 2. Thinking it could be 1st loss of year from Bengals if they don’t play well.

  3. Looks like Providence Day beat Hough and Luke Maye by 12 points and that’s a quality win right there….

  4. SWG over Wheatmore 70-20 at the end of the 3rd. Cowboys are guard heavy and will be difficult to keep up with!!
