Here is kind of a wild stat that we didn’t see or note earlier….NWG got off 56 shots to AC’s 26…NWG out-shot AC 56-26 and sort of makes you think of ‘shots on goal’, with NWG outshooting AC by 30….Sometimes it comes down to who gets more shots….You can’t score if you don’t shoot….NWG for the night, 13-56 and AC 10-26…..Three more made and thirty more shots taken…..From three-point range it was NWG 3-18 and AC 5-12….NWG’s defense did not allow AC to take second half shots and the AC Cougars sure didn’t get any extra shots due to NWG’s defense and rebounding….

A very good stat number that Dennis White noted at the end of the game, NWG with 17 steals and AC with just three and that is another sign of very good NWG defense, especially in the second half….Another good note for NWG is that the Vikings got to the foul line 24 times and they made 15-24….AC was up there half as many times as NWG and the Cougars made 5 FT’s(5-12)….15 made vs. 5 made and that is a 10-point swing right there…..

For NWG Morgan Pointer was 5-7 on her FT’s, Toni Tucker 4-6 and Hayley Barber went 3-4, while Bria Gibbs was 2-4, plus Savannah Neas was 1-3….AC was forced to foul late in the game in order to get the ball back and that NWG more than enough free throw chances to win the game and they did…..

Catherine Moore led NWG with 3 assists and among those 17 steals, Hayley Barber had 6 and then Morgan Pointer and Toni Tucker had 3 each….Savannah Neas and Catherine Moore with 2 steals a-piece….

Some other key NWG numbers were NWG with 11 bench points(8 from Gibbs), NWG with 18 points in the paint, 16 points off of turnovers 0 points off of turnovers for Alexander Central…NWG with 13 second chance points and none for AC…..

Game score line:

Alexander Central 8-11- 6- 5 Total 30
Northwest Guilford 5-10-10-19 Total 44

NWG trailed 8-5 end of one, it was AC up 19-15 at the half and the two teams were all tied up at 25-25 at the end of third period/quarter….NWG out-scored AC 29-11 in the second half and 19-5 in the 4th quarter….

*****The defense on Madi Suddreth in the second half was the difference in the game….Excellent work by Catherine Moore and Savannah Neas as they stayed with Suddreth and then when she looked for daylight, the other NWG Vikings would pick her up too with a double-team or a triple-team effort….*****
