Delaware Evens Series With Elon Baseball

ELON, N.C. – The Delaware Blue Hens pounded out 13 hits, including four home runs, to down the Elon Phoenix 10-4 in game two of a three-game CAA baseball series on Saturday at Latham Park.

With the defeat, Elon fell to 24-25 overall and is now 13-10 in CAA action. Delaware improved to 20-21, 8-12.

Ryan Cooper collected three of Elon’s 11 hits as he had two singles and hit his sixth home run of the year.

For Delaware, Diaz Nardo homered, his fifth of the season, and was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBI.

The loss went to Elon’s Lucas Bakker (5-6) who surrendered six runs on 10 hits in 5.1 innings of work.

Ron Marinaccio (4-3) allowed four runs on eight hits in six innings to pick up the victory. Taylor Mahoney tossed three scoreless innings for his second save.

Up next: Elon and Delaware will play wrap up the series on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Approximately 20 minutes prior to first pitch, Elon will recognize its 11-player senior class.

How it happened: With Elon holding a 3-2 lead after five innings before a four-run Delaware outburst gave the Blue Hens the lead for good. With one out and runners on first and second, Nardo doubled to right-center to put Delaware in front 4-3. He then scored on a Ty Warrington double. A fourth run came in when Elon was unable to turn a potential inning-ending double play.

Inside the box score: Delaware had four two-out RBI in the contest … The Blue Hens turned three double plays on the day … Elon was just 5-for-19 with runners on base.

Notes: Elon lost for just the sixth time (16-6) when recording at least 10 hits; that record is now 7-2 in league games … Elon has homered in five of its last six games.
