Nine HPU Panthers Named To Academic All-SoCon Team

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Nine members of the High Point University men’s lacrosse team were named to the Academic All-Southern Conference team, the league announced Friday.

“We are very proud of the efforts of these nine amazing young men,” head coack Jon Torpey said. “Being a balanced student-athlete is a major part of thriving here at High Point University and in our program these student-athletes exemplify what it takes to perform at the highest level both on and off the field.”

Junior Tyler Cook highlighted the group as one of 11 SoCon student-athletes to post a perfect 4.0 GPA during the 2014-15 season.

Cook was joined by redshirt-juniors Nick Bittner, Mitchell Dupere, Brad James and Adam Seal. Juniors Dan Lomas and Zack Price and sophomore Cole Carns and Tanner Landstra rounded out the nine Panthers on the list.

HPU’s nine selections tied Bellarmine for the most among SoCon lacrosse teams.

To be eligible for the academic all-conference team, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA entering the spring season and were required to compete in at least one-half of their teams’ competitions during the recently concluded campaign. In addition, the student-athletes must have successfully completed at least 24 credit hours in the previous two semesters.
