Simeon Gatling(Dudley HS) a big hit/pick at Fedora’s Freak Show at UNC:More on the “Freak Show” and its origin

More on the Freak Show from Andrew Carter at the Charlotte Observer:

CHAPEL HILL
At 8 p.m. on Saturday the bell tower at North Carolina rang out eight times while what could only be described as weird carnival music – happy-sounding but a bit possessed and dark, like a twisted clown – blared from the speakers at Kenan Stadium.

The words “freak show” shined brightly on the scoreboard, at times, while Tar Heels football highlights from long ago played on a loop. It wasn’t long before the “freaks” themselves came out, all with their nicknames of the night written down their arms.

  1. Is this the kid that has the offer from LSU? If so, why is he participating at camps? The offer from LSU should speak volumes. No camp tour needed–just chill and watch the offers pileup.

  2. And you delete people’s comments? This is an open forum and that dude’s previous question about parents submitting articles was a legitimate question. Wow Andy. I thought so much more of you than that.

  3. Our statement at the bottom of the page says we don’t crack on the kids on the kids or their parents….

Personal attacks on players, coaches, parents or school officials will not be tolerated.

  4. I completely agree. However, that dude attacked no one. He asked if you can submit articles about your kid. That was not an attack against parents, a kid, coaches or a program. Your policy is completely one that we agree with. But this forum should allow everyone to do that if they used it in that manner.

  5. Yes parents send info and we post about their kids, but it isn’t like the parents post it, we post it..

It is a good thing, I would think when a parent is proud of their kids…

We are all about the kids getting their names out there and that is what we are working toward…

We will help the parents and their kids all we can…

It can become a tight subject, but in getting recognition you have limited chances and opportunities and you better get all you can, but there are no guarantees out there…

One school offers, you better not shut the door, you better look at all of the offers and keep your options open…

On the bottom line, if the parents send the info and even if the kids send the info, we do our best to post it…

Sometimes we will have the kids invite us to their signings and we don’t even hear from the coaches or the parents…

We will do all we can…Some people get tired of seeing and hearing about and that is not a problem…We have lots of other posts on here too, check some of those out…

Good to have you with us and we will do our best to explain the situation and we may miss the mark, but we will keep on shooting for it…

  6. Thank you Andy. That’s something that I didn’t know…. That parents or kids could submit articles themselves. I will definitely spread the word. Submit your kids accolades & achievements. Interesting perspective

  7. Video, copies of post or articles with info from other sites and publications and Tweets…

Tweets are the big thing today and those come from coaches, kids and a variety of different places…

But overall, I don’t know of too many parents that are writing their own kid’s transcripts….

I don’t see the info hurting anybody, it may actually end up helping somebody, and that’s a good thing….
