Kernersville, NC – –

With the regular season having come to a close, the Piedmont Triad 4A Conference Tournament begins tonight at East Forsyth High School. Tonight’s matchup featured two teams that tied for fourth place in the regular season standings, in the Ragsdale Tigers and East Forsyth Eagles. However, the Eagles gained the #4 seed for the tournament thanks to sweeping the Tigers in the regular season, bumping Ragsdale to the #5 seed. The winner of tonight’s game will advance to play #1 seed SW Guilford on Wednesday in the tournament semifinals at 7:30pm on Wednesday evening at East Forsyth.

In tonight’s game, the Tigers would take the lead right off the jump thanks to a few long range jump shots falling. The Eagles would come right back thanks in large part to 9 first quarter points from Madison Cone. At the end of one period, the home standing Eagles lead 17-12. East Forsyth would expand on their lead in the 2nd quarter, as the Tigers found it difficult to score against the aggressive zone defense being played by the Eagles. At the half, East Forsyth took a 29-20 advantage into the locker room. The 3rd quarter was a defensive battle, with both teams struggling to score offensively. The teams combined to score just 13 total points in the period. The action picked up quickly in the final period, however. Ragsdale was able to pull ahead a couple of times, but never by more than two points. Both times the Tigers would take the lead, East Forsyth would retake the lead on 3-point plays at the other end. In the end, East Forsyth made just enough plays to pull out the win at home, 53-49, to advance to the semifinals of the conference tournament on Wednesday night.

Ragsdale was led by Greyson Collins (22 points, 3 steals) and Kyle Watkins (21 points, 8 rebounds). Madison Cone led the Eagles with 11 points on the evening.
