HPU MBB’s Adam Weary named Henson National Player of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C. – High Point University men’s basketball senior Adam Weary has been named the Lou Henson National Player of the Week for his superior efforts in two wins for the Panthers last week.

The Henson National Player of the Week award is given by CollegeInsider.com to the top mid-major player in the nation each week. Weary shares the honor this week with Quinton Hooker of North Dakota.

It marks the first time in HPU history that a Panther has earned the national honor.

Weary averaged 23.5 points, 6.0 assists, 3.5 rebounds, 1.5 steals and shot 60.7 percent (62.5 3pt FG%) in a 2-0 week for the Panthers. In Thursday’s 87-85 win vs. Winthrop, Weary tallied 14 of his 24 points in the second half to help HPU overcome an injury to John Brown and move into a tie for first place. He also distributed a career-best eight assists and grabbed four rebounds and two steals in 32 minutes.

In Saturday’s 80-60 win at Presbyterian, Weary notched a game-high 23 points and hit a career-best four 3-pointers to lead HPU to its fourth-straight Big South regular season title. He made 7-of-12 field goals, 5-of-6 free throws and tallied four assists in the win over the Blue Hose.
