Elon Women’s Golf Phoenix Climbs to Fourth in Round Two of Kiawah Island Intercollegiate

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – Heather Munro moved up to second overall individually at two-under par and the Elon University women’s golf team climbed to fourth place, securing a spot on the final day of the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate after the second round on Monday, Feb. 29, at Osprey Point Golf Club.

The Phoenix shot a team score of 301 (+13) on the second day and moved up from a tie for fifth to fourth place after two rounds. Elon is currently at +22 (297-301–598) and has secured a spot on the final day at Osprey Point. The top-20 teams in the tournament qualify for the final round of competition. The host College of Charleston and Coastal Carolina are both tied for first at 13-over par.

Highlights
After shooting a two-over 74 in round one, Munro surged from 25th to second individually after shooting a 68 (-4) second round. The Dundee, Scotland native is now at two-under par for the tournament after two rounds and trails individual leader Fatima Cano of Troy (-3) by one stroke. The round of Munro was one stroke off her career-best single round score 67 and three strokes off her 36-hole low of 140, which that she achieved at the 2014 William & Mary Invitational.

As for the rest of the Phoenix, Kelsey Badmaev finished with a second round score of 74 (+2), improving on her first round tally of 77 and is in a tie for 35th individually after day two. Aurelia Hamm currently has a two-round score of 153 (+9) and is 49th individually. Emily Brooks has a 36-hole score of 154 (+10) and Sunna Vidisdottir turned in her card with a 159 (+15).

Elon will play the final round at the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate tomorrow. The Phoenix is one of the final 20 squads to qualify for the final day. All five Elon competitors tee off at 9 a.m. tomorrow morning.
