Elon’s Munro Named CAA Women’s Golfer of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. – Elon sophomore Heather Munro has earned the team’s first CAA women’s golfer of the week honor of the season on Wednesday. Munro picked up the recognition after finishing third at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Spring Classic.

Munro, a native of Dundee, Scotland, finished in third place with a 54-hole career-best total of 213 (-3) at the Osprey Point Golf Club. The 2015 CAA Rookie of the Year surged from 25th individually after day one to second overall with a career-best 68 (-4) second round after shooting a 74 (+2) in the opening round on the par-72 course.

The second round of was the tied for the second-lowest 18-hole total in Elon’s Division I era. The second round for Munro was one stroke off her career-best single round score (67) and three strokes off her 36-hole low of 140. Munro’s third-place finish marks her best finish since the 2015 CAA Women’s Golf Championships, when she was the runner-up. As a team, Elon earned a fifth place finish in a tournament that had a 41-team field.

This is the first conference player of the week accolade of Munro’s career in the maroon and gold.

Munro and the Phoenix returns to action at the MSU Spring Citrus Challenge in Sorrento, Fla., from March 20-22.
