Cameron Smith(Northeast Guilford High School) a “true success story” at Roanoke College with the Maroon men’s basketball team

Cameron Smith(Northeast Guilford High School) is very excited after being selected to the ODAC(Old Dominion Athletic Conference) 3rd team All Conference squad this season.

Cameron Smith and his Roanoke College Maroons went 19-7 this season and this was their best record/mark since 2009.

Cam Smith will graduate from the Roanoke College Honors program with a business administration degree this May. He will then head up north to the New York City area to train for 2 months and see if he can play basketball somewhere at the professional level. Smith is only 21 and his best basketball days are ahead of him.

Cam went from the bottom of the bench on the Northeast Men’s JV as a freshman to starting 99 games at Roanoke College. Cam represents the true student athlete. He did not redshirt and he honored his 4-year commitment to both Northeast Guilford and Roanoke College.

He has played for two great coaches in Curtis Hunter and Page Moir. The ODAC conference and D3 basketball offers a wonderful opportunity for young people who don’t receive those D1 or D2 offers to play college basketball and have the chance to be a kid just a little bit longer.

Cam is thankful for the three D3 schools that recruited him and he is thrilled about his “Maroon experience” at Roanoke. He is excited for his college teammate, Sam Hildreth, a freshman from Northern Guilford, who will help the basketball program continue to grow.

We will continue to follow Cameron Smith(Northeast Guilford High School) and share any updates in his quest, his journey to play professional basketball. His family lets us know that he has been blessed with an entourage of support from the Davidson county, Greensboro area, and Roanoke College community.
