10 hits for each team and 3 errors from each team and a very even game these two outstanding programs…
WP:Gracen Staunton…Staunton and Anne Tewksbury(NG) were the starters…LP:Ashton Lambeth
Hit, run, score was the motto for NWG and it worked with two runs in the top of the 9th, as the Vikings take the contest in extra innings….NWG was up 2-0 early(Top 3) and then NG tied the game at 2-2(Bottom of 4) and then the Highthawks moved ahead 3-2(Bottom 4) and went up by 2 runs 4-2(Bottom 5) as we hit the middle innings and then NWG rallied to tie the game at 4-4 late(Top 6) and we hit the 8th and 9th innings at 4-4-4, before NWG pushed across those runs in the top of the 9th…Big triple in the 9th by NEG’s Bizzie Baumeir and Sarah Langston also came up with a big blow for NWG…Emily Chaisson grabbed the Save on the hill for NWG…Big hit by Gracen Staunton drove in two and tied the game at 4…
Big win for new NWG Coach Rick Shoemaker and a great way for his Vikings to start off the season and a really good game and overall effort turned in by both softball clubs…Tonight’s softball game was like one of those “Instant Classics” that they talk about on ESPN…
The softball game was definitely more captivating than baseball game tonight as the SEG Falcons led 2-0 at the end of the first and then the Falcons went up 3-0 and it was pretty much all Falcons from that point on….Nice early hitting by SEG with Justin Guy, Forrest Brothers and Devan Bartley helping to get it started….SEG came on with Austin Coble in relief, while NG hit the pen and brought John Clark Ouzts…
Baseball Final:
Southeast Guilford 7, Northern Guilford 1

  1. A GREAT softball game at the Northern Guilford tonight. Both starting pitchers managed the game well, NW Guilford bats seemed to wake up when Lambeth entered the game in relief of Tewksbury in the later innings. Staunton helped her own cause in the top of the 6th with an old-fashioned in the park homerun to right, driving in 2 runs and knotting the score at 4. Northern hit the ball very well, but stranded runners when they had their chances. These teams will play each other again later in the season – all should put this game down on your calendar.

  2. I watched the EG/Reidsvill baseball game and the starter for Reidsville threw well but was allowed to throw 7 innings and 120 plus pitches in first game at 35 degree weather. That’s not counting all the warmups. That is crazy in my eyes. I hope coaches will wake up and take care of these kids arms. Am I the only one who sees this as excessive this early and weather conditions?

  3. That does not make much sense. 120 pitches in 30 degree weather, that is Crazy. Must have wanted to win pretty bad. Good way to ruin a kid’s arm if you ask me. Wonder what Scott Bankhead, an old Reidsville boy would say about this or even some of the others on here that have been around here a few years. I thought they were teaching the kids how to get by on throwing less pitches instead of throwing more….

Charlie Pannell and the American Legion coaches like Charlie Teague and Reid Willett never taught this approach…

You got to be thinking sore when you think about this kid’s arm today and they told him to ice it down when he got home and his arm was already on ice after throwing in that cold air…

Tough night to watch a game in the cold, let alone throw a 120 pitches in 7 innings in it. Better get on the phone with Dr. Andrews.

    CRAZY!!!
