CAA Announces Men’s Basketball Postseason Awards

RICHMOND, Va. – Elon University freshman forward Tyler Seibring has been named to the Colonial Athletic Association’s 2016 Men’s Basketball All-Rookie Team, the league office announced on Thursday night, March 3. Seibring becomes the 10th player in program history to be named to an All-Freshman or All-Rookie team.

In addition to Seibring’s honor, Luke Eddy, Christian Hairston and Jack Anton were all named to the CAA All-Academic Team. For the second consecutive season, Elon had more CAA All-Academic honorees than any league institution.

A three-time CAA Rookie of the Week honoree this season, Seibring is fourth among all league freshmen in scoring and second in rebounding at 10.0 points and 4.7 rebounds per game respectively. The Towanda, Ill., native has scored in double figures during 16-of-31 games this season, with 11 of those coming in conference play. Seibring is also averaging a team-high 11.8 points per contest against CAA competition. He has started in 30 of the team’s 31 games this season and tallied two double-doubles during the regular season.

Seibring earned his first CAA Rookie of the Week honor on Dec. 21, after averaging 12.5 points and 6.0 rebounds and leading Elon to two victories. The freshman forward averaged 13.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in a week, which included a 79-73 road victory at JMU on Jan. 7, to earn his second Rookie of the Week honor on Jan. 10. He scored 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the win at James Madison. During the week, Seibring finished shooting 50 percent from the field, and was 6-of-14 from 3-point range.

To earn his third conference weekly honor, Seibring averaged 14.5 points and 4.5 rebounds, while shooting the ball 66.7 percent (10-15) from the floor, including 7-of-11 from 3-point range. He tied a season-high with 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds in Elon’s come-from-behind 65-64 road victory over Charleston on Jan. 16.

Eddy and Hairston both earned CAA All-Academic team honors for the second consecutive season, while Anton earned his first-career honor. The Phoenix has continued to show academic success. This is the seventh consecutive season that Elon has had at least one player on a conference All-Academic team.

Eighth-seeded Elon opens the CAA Men’s Basketball Championship tomorrow night at 6 p.m. at Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore against ninth-seeded Drexel. Watch the game live on CAA.TV.
