The ACC Basketball Tournament on the Radio for 2016 from Washington, D.C.

*****Here’s one for you won’t get anywhere else in this market/humble abode/ web verse…*****

We have been doing this same post now for around 11 years and we will bring it back again this year, because it always seems to be very popular…

Going to give you a lot of info and we hope it helps you find your game on the radio and that it gives you some background on where the games have been coming from over the years…

Heard one game already today/Tuesday with N.C. State defeating Wake Forest 75-72….

N.C. STATE:Game was heard on N.C. State radio with 105.7 FM out of Greensboro/Walnut Cove or Clemmons maybe??? A good clear signal and the strong FM sound of Gary Hahn and Tony Haynes…Good win for N.C. State and now they will be facing the Duke Blue Devils on Wednesday at 2pm…. This game will again be available on the Wolfpack station for the Triad, *****105.7***** and I know nothing else about this station, other than the fact that you can catch the Wolfpack games on there…

Also N.C. State on WRAL/101.5 FM in Raleigh…101.5 FM WRAL stole the Wolfpack games from AM 680 WPTF and 105.7 took the Wolfpack games away from AM 600 WSJS…WPTF and WSJS are both Curtis Media Group owned stations….N.C. State also on board with 1260 WKXR in Asheboro….

So N.C. State on 105.7 and 101.5 FM’s…The first one owned by IHeart Radio and the other owned by Capital Broadcasting and the Jim Goodman Family…105.7 does have Matt Pencola on staff and he has been doing some form of sports expression around our area for nearly 20 years….

DUKE:You can catch the Duke Blue Devils in the Triad on *****98.3 FM***** with Bob Harris, John Roth and John Rose on the Duke Blue Devils Radio Network…98.3 is a Hispanic broadcasting station(LaRaza) and you can learn more about them in our comments and details below…Bob Harris has been doing the games longer than anybody else in the business and he is one of the best ever…Duke also on 620 WNDC or they may have changed their call letters by now the DNC is the Flagship Station for the Duke Blue Devils Radio Network….you can also catch some Duke games on AM 1150 WBAG in Burlington, a Joe Gray-owned radio station…

NORTH CAROLINA:*****94.5 WPTI***** FM has been carrying the Tar Heel for quite a few years now…Heels have been all over the place over the years….AM 1470, the old WBIG had them, they were on WGBG 1400 AM, on WBIG 102.1 FM, which is now 102 JAMZ, on MAGIC Radio 99.5, on Z 93 FM now the WOLF, on 98.7 back in the day, which is now Simon, but today they have found a home on IHeart Radio, 94.5 FM WPTI…Heels with Jones Angell, Eric Montross and Dave Nathan….All Tar Heel games also available on 1150 WBAG in Burlington….

WAKE FOREST:The Wake Forest Demon Deacons’ season is pretty much over, but you could have heard them today and all season on their Flagship Station, *****98.1 WBRF FM***** out of Galax, Virginia….An Epperson-owned station….Wake was also heard on 1340 AM out of Winston-Salem, an AM music station trying to bring back the hits of the 60’s and 70’s with Dancin’ Dan or Don Curtins or Curtis…Wake also on WKEW AM 1400 Greensboro, a Black Gospel station and also owned by the Epperson Radio Group/Crew…It was curtins after today for Wake with Stan Cotton and Mark Friedinger….

Some of the history surrounding previous years of the ACC Tournament on radio:

Back in the day you had Woody Durham and Mick Mixon doing all the games of the ACC men’s basketball tournament, going wire-to-wire, Thursday through Sunday.

The same could be said for Duke with Bob Harris and Danny Highsmith/Mike Waters, Wake had Gene Overby and Glen Scott, and N.C. State’s Wally Ausley and Gary Dornberg. All the schools were doing all the games for UNC, Duke, Wake and State. The announcers called them all, from start to finish.(Not any more, as things have changed.)

  1. Hearing if N.C. State beats Duke today/Wednesday, Mike Giomi and Vinny Del Negro will not be available for N.C. State’s next game on Thursday…

It is tough to keep those older players healthy and ready…Bring back Tom Guigliotta…Spell check says, try again, but I will still stay with that…

Got to be moving on, it is starting to feel like 1987 all over again…
