The Patriots of Freedom High storm into the state finals for an impressive 7th time in school history, unbeaten on the year. This is the third straight year that the Patriots have made it to the regional stage of the tournament, but the first time since 2002 they’ve made the championship game. Freedom ran out to a 13-7 lead after one quarter of play before doubling up Ashbrook in the third quarter, 20-10, on the way to a 77-47 Patriot victory in the 3A Women’s Western Regional final. Atiyana Williams scored 25 points, including 8 for 8 from the free throw line, to lead all scorers. She was 7 of 11 from the field which helped the Patriots to a 54% shooting percentage from the field on the evening.

Head Coach Amber Reddick said, “The team became dedicated to each other and a balanced attack. They bought into the true meaning of the team concept.” Freedom swept defending 3A State Champions Hickory this season, knocking them off three times including the conference tournament final.
