College Men’s Lacrosse Final – Guilford 8, Mary Washington 6

MIDLOTHAN, Va. – Nick Damiano’s (Greensboro, N.C./Western Guilford) late third-quarter goal broke a 5-5 tie and sent Guilford College to an 8-6 lacrosse win over the University of Mary Washington Wednesday in a nonconference game at the River City Sportsplex.

Adam Fiore scored twice and added two assists for the Quakers. He assisted on Daniel Hughey’s goal less than two minutes after Damiano’s tally and gave Guilford a 7-5 edge after three quarters.

Jack Carver netted his third goal of the game early in the fourth quarter, which brought the Eagles (3-5) back to within one. After over eight scoreless minutes, Guilford’s Dylan Haupt added an insurance goal with 5:31 left in regulation. Quakers’ netminder Parker Styles made four of his 12 saves in the final quarter, including one on Shawn McKenzie with 3:08 left on the clock.

Fiore’s two goals built a 5-1 second-quarter Quakers’ lead before the Eagles closed the half with three straight goals, two by Carver. Noah Dewey’s netfiinder with 4:02 left in the third brought Mary Washington all the way back and set the stage for Damiano’s go-ahead score.

Zachary Berkowitz also scored two goals for the Quakers, who converted all 18 clear attempts. Fiore led the team with five ground balls and Aaron Parrish added three. Parrish won four-of-seven face-offs.

Carver’s three goals and McKenzie’s three assists paced the Eagles’ offense. Mike Marson added two scores. Miles Davis and Robert Tata both collected a game-best six ground balls. Sam Wasson made 10 saves in goal for Mary Washington.

Coach Tom Carmean’s Quakers visit Old Dominion Athletic Conference-rival Roanoke College Saturday (3/19) at 2:00 p.m.
