College Women’s Lacrosse Final – Lasell 12, Guilford 11

BAYAMON, P.R. – Taylor Yandow’s goal with 5:37 left in regulation gave Lasell College a 12-11 women’s lacrosse victory over Guilford College Wednesday. The contest was played at the Bayamon Soccer Complex 2 as part of a spring-break trip for the two schools.

Guilford (2-4) had two good looks at the goal in the waning seconds, but neither was on target and the Lasers (2-2) withstood the Quakers’ rally.

Lasell’s Vanessa Pino’s man-down goal 13:07 into the first half opened a 4-0 Lasers’ lead. The Quakers got on the board at the 15:01 mark on the first of Amanda Dionne’s two scores. The Quakers’ Marina Bailey tallied less than a minute later to halve the deficit. Both teams traded scores and the half ended with Lasell ahead, 5-3.

Free-position goals by Bridget Munnelly and Jordan McComb restored the Lasers with a four-goal lead with 26:50 remaining, but the Quakers responded with three straight goals. Summer Fowler, Dionne and Demming Carlow scored within a two-minute span and got Guilford to within 7-6. The Lasers held off the Quakers’ rally until Bailey’s third score of the day knotted the score at 11-11 with 6:49 to play.

Following a Guilford timeout, Lasell’s Taylor Dooley won the ensuing draw control and a minute later Yandow shook free and drove to the goal where she scored the eventual game winner.

Quakers’ netminder Sammi Milbourn stopped three shots in the final five minutes, which gave Guilford hope for another comeback. She finished with 11 saves, five ground balls and two caused turnovers in over 55 minutes of time in goal. Bailey and Carlow both netted a game-high three goals. Fowler added four points on two goals and two assists, plus three ground balls, two draw controls and three caused turnovers. Dionne had two goals, an assists and four draws.

Yandow’s three scores led the Lasers’ offense. Munnelly, Dooley and Pino each scored twice. Lisi Anczok picked up a game-high six ground balls and Brooke Bergeron made six of Lasell’s eight saves in goal.

Coach Sarah Lamphier’s Quakers open their Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) schedule Sunday (3/20) at Bridgewater College.
