Elon Women’s Tennis Returns Home to Face Charlotte on Friday

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University women’s tennis team returns home on Friday, March 18, for a matchup against the Charlotte 49ers at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center. First serve is set for 2 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT

The Phoenix (5-9) dropped a tough 4-3 decision at Davidson last Saturday, March 12, at the Davidson Tennis Courts. Erica Braschi, Suzanne Zenoni and Natalia Janowicz earned Elon’s three points in singles play.

BRASCHI ON A ROLL

Erica Braschi leads the team with eight singles wins this season. She is currently on a four-match winning streak in singles play. The sophomore has played primarily at No. 2 singles, but saw action at No. 1 in a win against N.C. Central.

SCOUTING CHARLOTTE

Charlotte is 4-5 overall this season. The 49ers have lost five of its last six matches after starting the season on a three-match winning streak. Charlotte fell to the James Madison Dukes 4-0 in its last match on March 9.

SERIES HISTORY

Charlotte leads the all-time series 8-6 against the Phoenix and it will be the 15th meeting since Elon joined Division I. Charlotte won last season’s matchup 4-3 on April 3, 2015, however the Phoenix won the previous five meetings since 2010.

UP NEXT

The Phoenix plays one match next week on Monday, March 21, at College of Charleston for a 2 p.m. match. Elon returns home 10 days later on Thursday, March 31, to host the Delaware at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center. The CAA matchup will begin at 2 p.m.

HEAD COACH ELIZABETH ANDERSON

Elizabeth Anderson is in her 12th season as head coach of the Phoenix. Anderson has led Elon to four straight seasons of 15 or more wins and guided the program to its first NCAA Tournament in 2014.

2016 CAA TOURNAMENT

Elon was selected to host the 2016 Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships, which will be held April 21-24 at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center and the Burlington Tennis Center. It will mark the first-ever CAA Tournament hosted by the Phoenix and first conference tournament hosted by the program since the 2013 SoCon Tournament.
