HARRISONBURG, Va. – Robert Lindgren earned his fifth straight singles victory, and the Elon University men’s tennis swept the James Madison Dukes, 7-0, in a CAA contest on Friday, March 18, at the Hillside Courts.
The Phoenix earned its fourth-straight victory, improving to 11-4 overall with the win. James Madison fell to 7-7 overall after the loss.
Lindgren improved his duo match singles record to 10-3 overall with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles and was the first player off the court in singles play. Felipe Sarrasague clinched the victory for the second straight match for the Phoenix with a win on court two.
HIGHLIGHTS
Doubles duo Mario Paccini and Lindgren won the first match 6-2 at No. 2. Petar Tomic and Chris Humphreys followed up with a 6-2 victory on court one to clinch the point and give the Phoenix a 1-0 lead in the match. Salvador Mijares and Neal Port led 5-2 on court three before the point was clinched.
After Lindgren won his fifth straight singles match against Maxi Branth gave Elon a 2-0 advantage, Tomic extended the Phoenix lead 3-0, defeating Miljan Ruzic, 6-3, 6-3. Sarrasague played the role of match-clincher for the second straight match with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Brett Moorhead at No. 2 singles.
Paccini was off the courts next with a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles to extend Elon’s lead 5-0. Mijares grinded out a 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-4) victory at No. 4 before Humphreys completed the sweep with a 6-1, 5-7, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles. The victory for Mijares was his fourth straight singles win.

The Phoenix is back in action next week on Tuesday, March 22, for a matchup on the road at Coastal Carolina at 1:30 p.m.
