Elon Men’s Golf Phoenix Completes Shortened First Day of Seahawk Intercollegiate

WILMINGTON, N.C. – After a shorten first day due to rain, the Elon University men’s golf team’s stands in sixth place at a six over-par 295 at the Seahawk Intercollegiate on Sunday, March 20, at the Country Club of Landfall.

The tournament was originally scheduled to be a 54-hole tournament. After rain shortened the first day of competition to 18 holes, the Seahawk Intercollegiate has been reduced to a 36-hole tournament.

The Phoenix finished with a first round total of 295 (+6). Duke University, ranked No. 20 nationally by GolfStat, is in the lead at eight-under par (280).

HIGHLIGHTS
Charlie May and Jonathan DiIanni lead the way for the Phoenix as they each carded first round totals of a one-under par 71. May is competing as an individual for Elon.

In addition for the Phoenix, Jake Leavitt is in a tie for 25th individually turning in a first round total of 73 (+1), just two strokes behind May and DiIanni. Jared Mactas finished with a three-over 75, Troy Beaver returned to the club house with a first day total of 76 (+4), and Philip Loeb concluded the first round with a six-over 78.

Elon concludes the Seahawk Intercollegiate with the final round tomorrow at the Country Club of Landfall. The Phoenix will tee off starting at 8:27 a.m., which includes Loeb in Group 4.
