HPU Men’s Golf Panthers wrap up day one at Kingsmill Invitational

• High Point sits in 24th after recording a combined first round score of 308
• Christian Casingal led the squad recording a first round score of 73
• The Purple & White will return to action tomorrow morning with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m.

WILLIAMSBURG, VA. – The High Point University men’s golf team completed up the first round of play with an 18-hole combined score of 308. The squad is in 24th-place overall in the competitive field.

Freshman Christian Casingal led the squad after 18-holes of play with a three-over par 73 and is currently tied for 34th.

“We faced some tough conditions today with the wind and rain in this competitive tournament,” said head coach Greg Flesher. “I was very impressed with our play today based on the condition and excited to get out tomorrow.”

Emile Menard, a sophomore, notched a first-round 76 and is currently tied for 70th. Meanwhile, senior McKay Tye wrapped up his first round of play with a 79 (t-106th).

Likewise, Pureun Kim, a sophomore, notched an 18-hole score of 80 and is in a tie for 112th in the tournament. Redshirt-sophomore AJ Hopkins recorded a score of 82 to find himself in a tie for 118th.

Tennessee currently holds the tournaments title after an 18-hole score 284. Penn State (287), Dayton (287), Loyola – Maryland (288), and Appalachian State (288) round off the top-five.

The men will continue their second round of play tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. with a shotgun start at the Kingsmill Resort River Course.
