GREENSBORO, N.C. – Roanoke College’s Lucas Nowlin totaled six RBI with a grand slam as Guilford College dropped a Tuesday afternoon Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest to Roanoke, 18-7.

The Quakers (12-12, 2-6 ODAC) got on the board in the bottom of the second inning when Guilford gained new life off a ground-ball error with two outs, setting up a Grayson Tuttle home run to left field. Roanoke (13-7, 6-2 ODAC) countered one-half inning later on a Craig Kiley two-out double down the right field line, but Guilford stopped the rally one at-bat later. Logan Jones added a run for the Quakers in the next half-inning with two outs in an inning featuring an error and an infield fly that fell in shallow right field. Roanoke countered in the top of the sixth inning with a six-run rally, followed by a five-run rally one inning later. The Quakers produced a two-out rally in the bottom of the eighth inning where an error at third base gave the Quakers new life to sprout a three-run rally, capped by a Rocco Wilcox single. Roanoke added five insurance runs in the top of the ninth inning thanks to a Nowlin grand slam to seal the win.

Tuttle finished the afternoon two-for-four with two RBI and a home run. Rocco Wilcox led the Quakers’ bats, hitting three-for-four with a double and two RBI. A.J. Girting was the remaining bat with a multi-hit afternoon, finishing two-for-five.

Nowlin’s grand slam was his lone extra-base hit on his three-for-five afternoon. Will Decker posted two doubles in a two-for-seven afternoon where he drove in one run.

Darin Salter (0-1) took the loss for the Quakers in a five-inning effort where he threw to three batters in the sixth inning. He gave up five runs (one unearned) on five hits while walking three and striking out one. John Todd led the Quakers out of the bullpen, throwing one and two-third innings where he gave up just two hits and struck out four.

Kenny Mackovic (2-0) claimed the win in relief of starter Rawlings Cumbea. Mackovic threw two clean innings while walking one batter. Craig Kiley led the Roanoke bullpen, throwing the final one and one-third innings where he struck out two batters.

The Quakers return to action Saturday, traveling to Washington and Lee University for a 1 p.m. ODAC contest.
