ELON, N.C. – Easter weekend will find the Elon University baseball team playing a series on the road for the first time this season as the Phoenix visits UNC Wilmington for a three-game Colonial Athletic Association set. The series is scheduled to open with a 6 p.m. game on Friday, April 25. The Saturday and Sunday contests are both 2 p.m. starts.

The Series
Elon and UNCW have met 58 times in a series that dates to 1964. The Seahawks have claimed 32 victories, and Elon 26. Last season, the Phoenix won two of the three games played at Elon’s Latham Park in the first-ever meeting of the two as CAA rivals.

UNCW comes in to the weekend with an overall record of 13-6. This will be the first league series for the Seahawks. UNCW has won four straight games, including a 6-4 victory over 15th-ranked North Carolina State on Tuesday. Robbie Thorburn leads the way at the plate for UNCW. Thorburn is hitting .391 with 19 runs scored, 10 RBI and 11 stolen bases. Nick Feight, who is hitting .375, leads the team with seven home runs and 34 RBI. As a team, UNCW is hitting .305 with 174 runs scored, 35 doubles, six triples, 20 homers and 37 stolen bases in 19 games. On the mound, the pitching staff has a 4.39 ERA with 134 strikeouts in 170.0 innings. Opponents have been held to just a .243 batting average.
Pair Near National Stats Lead
Nick Zammarelli and Kyle Jackson are both off to solid starts to the 2016 season and are both near the top of a couple of NCAA statistical rankings (thru games of March 22). Zammarelli currently has 11 doubles to rank sixth in the nation, just two behind the leaders. Jackson’s eight home runs rate eighth and are three shy of the national lead. He also rates eighth in total bases and 13th in slugging percentage.
Swiped
In Elon’s 13-7 win over William & Mary, the Phoenix stole six bases. The last time that Elon recorded six stolen bases in a game was on March 30, 2014 in the first game of a doubleheader against The Citadel. Elon also swiped six bags against Saint Joseph’s on Feb. 28, 2014.
