Elon Baseball Begins Five-Game Homestand Against Wake Forest on Tuesday

ELON, N.C. – A five-game homestand for the Elon University baseball team begins on Tuesday, March 29, at 6 p.m. when the Phoenix hosts the Wake Forest Demon Deacons at Latham Park.

The Series
Elon and Wake Forest first met in 1909 and have played 93 times. Elon trails the all-time series 36-56 with the result of one contest unknown. Last season, the Phoenix and Deacs split two games, each winning on the road.

Wake Forest visits Latham Park with an overall record of 16-10. The Deacons are 4-5 in ACC action after winning two games of its three-game set with Duke over the weekend. Wake Forest’s offense is led by Will Craig who is hitting .450 with eight home runs and 29 RBI along with 7 doubles and 21 runs scored. As a team, the Deacons are batting .279 with 168 runs scored, 52 doubles, four triples and 24 homers. The pitching staff sports a 4.23 ERA and has struck out 187 hitters in 229.2 innings.

Pair Near Nationlal Stats Lead
Nick Zammarelli and Kyle Jackson are both off to solid starts to the 2016 season and are both near the top of a couple of NCAA statistical rankings (thru games of March 27). Zammarelli currently has 12 doubles to rank fourth in the nation, just two behind the leaders. Jackson’s nine home runs rate seventh, while his 11 doubles rank 14th. He also rates ninth in total bases and seventh in slugging percentage.

Elon will continue its homestand with a three-game CAA series against College of Charleston. The set is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 1.
