  1. This is the worst All-Area in a long time. Viewers on this site has openly been against just throwing things together in girls basketball. First how are you the area player of the year and you was not your conference player of the year? There needs to be requirements. If the N&R staff saw some of these girls play they would not have made these teams. How is Shaniya Jones not in the first three teams? How is Breonna Foster not on the first three teams? She has committed to Campbell University. N&R you have to do more research or don’t do this at all.

  2. What about the Northeast player (Jeffers) that scored nearly 18-20 per game with a few 30 and 40 pt games yet I did not even see her name in the honorable mentioned?? I agree that Shaniya Jones (WES) which is just behind LaShonia (SW) in terms of PG talent should have at least been on the 2nd or 3rd team. I also agree that Breonna Foster should have at least made the 3rd team. There are a lot of girls on these teams that simply played on great/good teams but can’t hold their own without their “super star” teammates. You should not make an all area team just because you were a piece of the puzzle. You should make it because the machine does not operate well without you. If there isn’t a dropout when you are gone or on the bench, then you don’t belong on the 1st, 2nd or 3rd team. 1st team should be reserved for the superstars, 2nd team should for the superstar in waiting and 3rd team for that glue or every things good type of player.

  3. I was surprised that no one from this area even made the 1st thru 3rd team all state on the boys side. The talent seems to be down with the public school players in this area. If you separate the few NW players, and the few other players from Smith and Dudley, where are the high level players in public school for the triad. I realize a lot of the better talent went to the private schools but I would have expected some other players to rise up to the State level of play. Am I the only one that thinks there is a talent gap in the public school?

  4. Great to see the NW News and Record still doing their best to hype up NW Guilford. They do more reports on NW then any other team its kinda funny actually.

  5. @Just Saying

    Yeah, they hyped a Northwest girls team that went 58-2 the last two years, losing only to a nationally ranked team last year and a team that didn’t lose to anybody in NC this year.

    And they hyped a boys team that only lost to GDS, Southwest (beat ’em twice, too) and to the refs at North Surry and Butler, both by one.

    Bitter, table for one.

  6. “Do Better Research” with grammar like that, it’s obvious there’s no point arguing with you. Couple of rhetorical questions though: Did your area player of the year pick receive multiple D1 offers before turning 15 years old? Receive ACC and SEC offers before turning 16?
    Eye guess them coaches don’t no what their doing ether.

  7. @ talent gap – if you think all of the ‘talent’ resides at NWG, Smith and Dudley, I suggest that you take a trip over to High Point and watch SWG play. I’ve had the pleasure and the horror of watching them play quite a bit over the last few years do to having relationships with kids who have played against them and with a coach who used to work there and they have literally dominated the public school game for a while.

    But to your bigger question, I tend to agree with you. Yes private school ball has hurt public schools in the area. You have what 13 public high schools in Guilford county alone and then you have Weslyean, HPC and GDS who are all high major private schools. Once you factor in the public and private schools in the surrounding counties, you don’t have enough players to support 15 teams at a high level.

  8. I understand the Girls team Springer they are a State Championship caliber team but they did cover them like they were the only team in the area. I’m more so talking about the Boys Basketball Baseball and especially Football. Every Week its another article about NW.

  9. How did Kodi Centry not even earn honorable mention? All conference and first female ever at McMichael to reach 1000 pts as a junior.

  10. Barbara don’t lose any sleep over this list. This list is written by a couple guys who think NW and Northern Guilford are the only two teams in the area. Or maybe they’re smarter than I give them credit for and they write for the part of Guilford County that buys the most News Papers and its just smart business. NW/Northern Guilford County stuck up parents don’t want to read about kids from areas outside of their other than maybe Page.

  11. We appreciate all the feedback and discussion.

    @Barbara

    Kodi did not make honorable mention because her coach never bothered to nominate her or anyone else from McMichael. We send every AD in the area reminders, as well as coaches, that they have to nominate their players. Most send us information, but some apparently can’t be bothered. We don’t get to see every player among the 31 schools we cover in basketball, so we have to rely on coaches for their input.

    @Just Saying

    We have printed high school sports stories about athletes from High Point Christian, Dudley (twice), High Point Central, Morehead, Reidsville and Westchester just in the past week, as well as photos in today’s News & Record from a Southeast Guilford-Rockingham County baseball game. Based on your comment, it sounds like you’re the one with the bias — against Northwest Guilford and Northern Guilford and the parents of students at those schools.

  12. @Just Saying, I think you’re on to something here with your conspiracy theory about the Greensboro News and Record. I was reading the paper this morning and noticed the majority of its content related to things which were relevant to the Greensboro area. Even the advertising was mostly for goods and services in the Greensboro area. It was suddenly obvious to me that you are correct; the Greensboro News and Record is targeting their content to people who actually live in the Greensboro area and buy their publication. I’m off to Winston-Salem to buy more tinfoil for my hat, they’re not going to use their mind control techniques on me.

    @Barbara; Kodi and Madeline are the two best players in Rockingham County. They would be starters and contributors on any team in Guilford County, public or private school. I hope Kodi plays Showcase this summer to aid in getting the collegiate recognition she deserves.

  13. Looks like Pat is a NW or Northern fan like Joe. NW the most overrated team in the State and Northern the best 3A (Little League) team in the State!

  14. Actually Joe’s sentence structure is a lot different from mine, but logic’s not important here.

    I think I can solve this issues for next year. After the end of the regular season and conference playoffs, you seed the 64 best NCHSSA 4A girl’s teams in the state based upon their strength of schedule and won/lost record. Those teams play a single elimination tournament based upon this seeding. The winner of this tournament then plays Dudley for the State Championship.
