HPU Women’s lacrosse knocks off Presbyterian, 17-3

• Senior Allie Foard posted a game-high five goals
• Senior Emily Meier added five points on two goals and three assists
• Sophomore Erica Perrotta tallied three points (1g, 2a) and a career-best five draw controls

CLINTON, S.C. – The High Point University women’s lacrosse team (7-4, 3-0) jumped out to a 10-1 halftime lead en route to a 17-3 victory over Presbyterian College (2-9, 0-3) on Saturday afternoon in Old Bailey Stadium.

All 27 of HPU’s available players saw action in the game while 13 student-athletes posted at least a point in the contest. With the win, HPU improves to 3-0 in Big South play for the third time in the past four years.

“I’m proud of this team win today,” head coach Lyndsey Boswell said. “We had contributions from our whole roster and great leadership from our seniors. It feels good to get a solid conference win on the road.”

Senior Allie Foard led the HPU offense with a game-high five goals while fellow senior captain Emily Meier matched her with five points on two goals and three assists. It matched Meier’s third straight game with at least three assists.

In addition, sophomore Erica Perrotta tallied a new career high with five draw controls and chipped in three points on a goal and two assists in the contest. Senior Leah Pace added two goals, sophomore Darla Poulin tied a career high with two points (1g, 1a) and senior Kasey Callaway set a new personal best with two assists in the contest.

HPU held significant advantages in shots (26-8), draw controls (15-7) and ground balls (27-23) in the game.

Defensively, nine players posted at least one caused turnover. Freshman Molly Andrews played the first 30 minutes in goal and tallied three saves while allowing just one goal. Fellow freshman Victoria Lomangino played the second half and made two saves while limiting the PC offense to just two goals. The three goals allowed by HPU were the fewest since the Panthers limited Gardner-Webb to two on April 4, 2015.

The Panthers scored the first 10 goals of the game, with Foard providing three over the first 20 minutes. HPU scored its first five goals in four total minutes. The Blue Hose could not move closer than eight (11-3) for the remainder of the game, as HPU held PC scoreless over the final 19:52.

With the victory, HPU improves to 8-0 all-time against Presbyterian.

The Panthers return to Vert Stadium for a two-game homestand beginning Wednesday vs. Gardner-Webb. First draw is scheduled for 7 p.m.
