College Men’s Track & Field News – Guilford’s Mitchell Named ODAC Athlete of the Week

FOREST, Va. – Guilford College junior Josephus Mitchell (Winston-Salem, N.C./R.J. Reynolds) earned the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Men’s Track and Field Athlete of the Week Monday. Mitchell, a sprinter, is the Quakers’ first winner of the league’s weekly prize this season and a first-time honoree.

Mitchell posted the 19th-fastest 100-meter dash time in NCAA Division III with a wind-aided mark of 10.88 seconds. The time is Guilford’s best this season and the fastest in the conference this season. He placed eighth in the 79-man field, tops among NCAA Division III contestants. Mitchell also placed 38th among 104 sprinters in the 200 with a wind-aided mark of 22.78 seconds, the ODAC’s fifth-fastest this season. He had the third-fastest Division III time.

Mitchell also ran a leg on the Quakers’ 4×100 relay that finished 13th among 19 teams, second in Division III. Guilford’s time of 44.26 seconds is fourth-fastest in school history and less than three-tenths of a second off the school record set March 12 at the Seahawk Invitational.
