Hopkins & Tye lead HPU Men’s Golf Panthers at ECU Intercollegiate

GREENSVILLE, N.C. – The High Point University men’s golf team finished the first two rounds of the East Carolina Intercollegiate with a score of 630 (322-308) to sit in 11th place.

Redshirt-sophomore AJ Hopkins and senior McKay Tye posted matching two-round scores of 155 to sit tied for 32nd after the first round of play. Hopkins improved three strokes (79-76) in the second round while recording 18 pars and four birdies within the first two rounds. McKay improved one stroke (78-77) during his second trip around course.

Christian Casingal, a freshman, shot a two round-combined score of 158 (80-78) to finish the day in a tie for 44th.

Sophomore Emile Menard improved an impressive eight strokes over the second 18 holes to finish off the day notching a score of 162 (85-77), which is good for 62nd.

Purerun Kim, a sophomore, wrapped up his two rounds with a combined score of 169 (85-84) to sit in 72nd.

Host East Carolina currently holds the tournament lead with a combined two-round score of 576 (292-284, -4). Florida Gulf Coast (592), Campbell (595), Old Dominion (609) and Gardner-Webb (615) round off the top-five teams.

The squad will continue to the final 18-hole round tomorrow morning with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start.
