Elon’s Lucas Garners CAA Women’s Tennis Player of the Week Honor

RICHMOND, Va. – Elon University women’s tennis sophomore Olivia Lucas has been named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Week, today, April 5, as announced by the league office.

Lucas earned her first-career CAA women’s tennis Player of the Week honor after compiling a perfect 3-0 record at No. 1 singles as Elon swept play against Delaware (7-0), James Madison (4-3) and Towson (4-0) last week.

The sophomore beat Delaware’s Amanda Studnicki, 6-0, 6-4, topped JMU’s Rachel Nelson, 6-2, 6-2, and had the match-clinching point with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 triumph over Towson’s Nicole Shakhnazarova.

The Greenville, S.C. native has now captured five consecutive singles matches. The Phoenix improves to 10-9 overall and is on a five-match win streak. Lucas claims the team’s second CAA Player of the Week honor this season. Erica Braschi also earned the award on March 22.

Elon returns to action on Friday, April 8, when they hit the road to take on the East Carolina Pirates at 2:30 p.m.
