Tomic Earns Elon Men’s Tennis Fourth CAA Weekly Honor

RICHMOND, Va. – Elon University men’s tennis junior Petar Tomic has been named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Week, today, April 5, as announced by the league office.

Tomic was selected as the CAA men’s tennis Player of the Week honor after going 2-0 at No. 5 singles in Elon’s team victories over UNCG (4-3) and 62nd-ranked William & Mary (5-2) last week.

The Belgrade, Serbia native becomes the third player to earn CAA Player of the Week honors this season joining Felipe Sarrasague and Robert Lindgren. Tomic also earned CAA Doubles Team of the Week honors on March 2 with Chris Humphreys.

The junior held off UNCG’s Warren Bryan, 6-2, 7-5, to put the Phoenix ahead 3-2 in the tightly contested match. Against William & Mary, he defeated the Tribe’s Aidan Talcott, 6-2, 6-2, to give Elon a 3-0 advantage. Tomic has now won his last six matches.

The Phoenix has been on a roll recently and is at 14-4 overall this season. The victory over William & Mary was the Phoenix’s first over a ranked opponent this season and increased their winning streak to seven.

The Phoenix returns to the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center on Wednesday for 3 p.m. contest against the College of Charleston.
