HPU’s Tye posts top-20 finish at ECU Intercollegiate

• McKay Tye finished his tour tied for 18th recording a three round total of 229 (78-77-74)
• The men scored a 312 in the third round to finish eighth with a total score of 942
• The men will return to action at the Coca-Cola Invitational for their last regular season tournament on April 11-12

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Senior McKay Tye led the High Point University men’s golf squad posting a score of 229 (78-77-74). Tye posted 10 pars and three birdies in the third round action to finish with a two-over par 74. The Asheville, N.C. native finished the East Carolina event tied for 18th.

“I am impressed in how the men wrapped up today’s play,” said men’s golf head coach Greg Flesher. “McKay Tye and Christian Casingal stepped up their game today, recording their lowest scores of the tournament in extremely windy conditions. It was also great to see AJ Hopkins recovering from his injury and playing well.”

The Purple & White completed their 54-hole tournament with 942 strokes to finish eighth overall.

Freshman Christian Casingal improved three strokes in the third round to finish with a three-round combined score of 233 (80-78-75). Casginal notched 13 pars and a birdie to finish tied for 30th.

AJ Hopkins, a redshirt-sophomore, carded a final score of 236 (79-76-81) to finish the intercollegiate t-37th. Sophomore Pureun Kim improved two-strokes in the final round to record a 56-hole total of 251 (85-84-82), to finish in 69th place. Meanwhile, sophomore Emile Menard wrapped up his 54-hole tour with a combined score of 252 (85-77-90) to place 70th.

Host East Carolina clenched the intercollegiate title with a combined score of 880 (292-284-304). Campbell (903), Florida Gulf Coast (903), Old Dominion (915), and Gardner-Webb (928) rounded off the tournaments top-five teams.

The men will wrap-up their spring tour at the Coca-Cola Invitational on April 11-12 in Spartanburg, S.C.
