SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The High Point University men’s golf team wrapped up its first day of play at the Coca-Cola Invitational with a two round score of 585 (291-294, +9) and currently sits tied for 13th place.

Redshirt-sophomore AJ Hopkins posted his career-best round in the first 18 with a even par 72. Likewise, senior McKay Tye and sophomore Emile Menard matched Hopkins effort with a par rounds of their own.
Freshman Christian Casingal wrapped up first round of play with a 75 (+3) while fellow freshman Davis Kiger rounded off his first 18-holes recoding a score of 79. Overall, the squad carded a +3 (291) in the opening round.
“We had an amazing day today at the Wofford-hosted Coca-Cola Invitational,” head coach Greg Flesher said. “McKay Tye led the team with great matching scores who was able to make multiple five to six foot puts. Emile Menard and Christian Casingal also posted strong finishes in the second round. I am very pleased with how our men did today and I am excited for another day of golf tomorrow.”
The men posted a combined score of 294 in the second round of play. Tye shot another 72 in second-round action to finish the first day with a score of 144, which is good for 25th-place. The senior notched 15 pars and 11 birdie and is tied for fifth in par-5 scoring (4.25, -6) after two rounds.
Menard recorded a one-over par 73 in the second round of 18-holes to finish the day with a score of 145 and sits t-31st. The Ange-Gardien, Quebec native is tied for fourth in par-4 scoring (4.00, E) while recording 21 pars and eight birdies during his first 36-holes.
Casingal improved three-strokes in the second round to produce a two-round score of 147 (75-72). Casingal finished the day tied for 43rd.
Hopkins and Kiger finished their last 18-holes of the day with matching scores of 77. Hopkins finished the day with a combined score of 149 (72-77) to sit tied for 57th while Kiger recorded a 156 (79-77) to finish tied for 81st.
After the first day of the Coca-Cola Invitational Big South competitor Gardner-Webb holds the lead with a combined score of 564 (283-281). Meanwhile, USC Upstate (566), host Wofford College (566), Bethune-Cookman (570), Army West Point (572), and Charleston Southern (572) round off the top-five.
