Brooks, Elon in Second After First Round of CAA Women’s Golf Championships

SOUTHPORT, N.C. – Senior Emily Brooks carded a one over-par 73 and the Elon University women’s golf team stands in second place after the first round of the 2016 CAA Women’s Golf Championships at the St. James Plantation Reserve Club.

First Round

Elon carded a 309 (+19) in the first round of action and trails the leaders UNCW by two strokes. Brooks’ first round puts her in sole possession of second individually. Meghan Theiss of UNCW holds a two stroke lead after shooting a 71 (-1) after the first 18-holes.

HIGHLIGHTS
Brooks led the way for the Phoenix with her career-best conference championship-opening round total. After making bogey on four of her first eight holes, the Chapel Hill, N.C. native made five birdies in her last 10 holes.

Freshman Aurelia Hamm had a strong showing in her CAA Championships debut and is tied for fourth individually after carding a four-over 76 for the first day. Hamm registered two birdies and 10 pars during her round.

In addition for the Phoenix, Heather Munro and Kelsey Badmaev each finished with an 80 (+8) in the first round and are tied for 13th individually. Rounding out the competitors for Elon was Sunna Vidisdottir, who finished her round with an 86 (+14) and his in a tie for 32nd individually.

UP NEXT
The second round of the CAA Women’s Golf Championships begins tomorrow 9 a.m. at the St. James Plantation Reserve Club. Vidisdottir will be the first to tee off for the Phoenix at 9:45 a.m. in Group 6.
