DiIanni Earns Top-Five Finish, Elon Places Fourth at CAA Men’s Golf Championships

SOUTHPORT, N.C. – Senior Jonathan DiIanni shot a two under-par 70 to earn a his first-career conference All-Tournament team honor and the Elon University men’s golf team finished in fourth place at the 2016 CAA Men’s Golf Championships today, April 24, at the St. James Plantation Founders Club.

The Phoenix as a team finished fourth overall, shooting +31 (307-294-294–895) for the championships. Elon equaled its stroke total from the second round with a 294 on day three. College of Charleston captured its third straight CAA Championship and the Cougars’ own William Rainey was the individual medalist.

HIGHLIGHTS
DiIanni carded a two-under 70 in the final round to cap off a six under par two-round surge to earn his first career All-Tournament team honor. After standing in a tie for 24th after round one, DiIanni moved up the leaderboard to finish in a tie for fifth for the tournament at one-over par (79-68-70–217).

Philip Loeb finished three strokes out of the top-10 individually finishing with an even-par 72 on day three. The freshman earned a spot in 13th at nine over par (75-78-72–225) for the tournament. Charlie May was just a stroke behind Loeb finishing at 10 over (76-73-77–226) after three rounds at the Founders Club.

Jared Mactas finished in a tie for 23rd individually with a 13 over-par (77-75-77–229) score in three rounds of action. Troy Beaver tied for 34th individually with a final three-round score of 19-over par (81-79-75–235).

NOTES
– DiIanni earned his first-career conference All-Tournament team honor with a career-high finish in a conference tournament in fifth.
– Elon finished in the top-five for the fourth time this season. The Phoenix also earned a top-five finish at the Elon Intercollegiate, Hummingbird Intercollegiate and the Pinehurst Intercollegiate.
– The Phoenix improved its CAA Championships finish from last season. Elon finished fifth overall at the 2015 CAA Championships.
