  1. Did this game get played yet?
    Mid-Piedmont 3-A Softball Semifinals:
#4 Western Guilford vs. #1 Ledford 5pm at Ledford HS

  2. Northern Guilford decided to take the cowardly way out and cancel the Mid-state 3A tournament.

  3. Posted the Western game with today’s games and last game I had for WG softball was the 5-4 win over Asheboro…

Sorry to hear about the Mid-State 3-A….

Seedings and pairings should be coming out for the NCHSAA State Tournament by Monday of next week…

  4. I am not sure if any other conferences have cancelled their tournament and the answer is probably not. It is interesting that the Mid-state 3A tournament is cancelled without alternatives. Options were offered to the teams in the tournament to play but they constantly refused. The challenge is that Rockingham, and Northern, and Northeast trying to agree. Rockingham is the number 1 seed in the tournament/league will not affect their state status for a home game and Northern will receive number 2 by not playing. Northern had something to lose and that is home game in the state playoffs. The appeal process for the Rams would be to the conference commissioner who is the principal at Rockingham. Great process. There is nothing that can be done about this year but the organizational structure/process needs to change in the future.

  5. Really….It has rained everyday this week. Fields are soaked. Maybe you should have not went 8-8 in the regular season.

  6. It is not about today it is about the future. It is the process.

  7. Northeast Guilford High School’s field was in good enough condition to play today’s games but the teams that already had their seeds decided not comply, in fear that they’d lose there seeding.

  8. Smart move by Northern if you ask me. I seriously doubt they were afraid OR “cowards”…Why play on a bad field in miserable conditions if it can only hurt your seed and didn’t they beat NE twice already this year? NE finished in like 6th place and now want to make up stories and call names. Shameful LOL

  9. Wesleyan knocks HPCA out 11-1. Wesleyan hits 3 dingers 2 of which were 3 run HR. Game tomorrow at Finch Field (Hi Toms) 3:00. Major state seedings on the line tomorrow for both teams. Winner likely will be #1 for state playoffs

  10. A little salty about not playing is probably an under statement. Yes NE finished 8-8 in conference and finished “like in 6th place”…..And did loose twice to Northern in regular season (2-1 and 1-0)… But had everything to gain by playing these games and nothing to loose. But that is why you play the game. That is why this kids play the game. Ask any of the kids on any team and they will all tell you they want to play the game with something on the line.. All of this kids have played in worse conditions, so a little wet surface is no big deal. I guess the worse thing is, seeing the rest of these conference tournaments being played and not ours.. But I guess when you have something to loose and you have the choice of playing or not playing ….. You choose not playing. I am sure the players will appreciate the boost in confidence. I shouldn’t bring the players into it, after all I know it wasn’t their decision. Again, certainly nothing against any of the players, they have all grown up playing with and against each other and all are great kids. Just hate to not see in settled on the field, where they all want to be.

  11. parents more upset than kids I assure you of that…kids are out tonight doing their thing while parents are on message boards and FaceBook.

  12. I tell you what……. ask any player from either team, would they rather be out watching a game tonight ( in which they are) or playing tonight. I can bet you all the players are disappointed with the outcome.

  13. I truly believe for the most part the kids from all three teams wanted to play but they were not given a choice. They are all great young men. In fact when they figure out why they are not playing there will be coaches struggling to answer their questions. Please don’t think they are fine because of Facebook posts. In fact kids are being told by parents and coaches to remain a class act and be bigger than the situation. I just wish all three teams luck in the state playoffs or I should say the kids.

  14. East Forsyth 6 SWG 5 – Tough walk off loss for the Cowboys. They led 5-4 with two outs in the 7th. They battled back from 4-0 deficit to take a 5-4 lead.

  15. The sad thing about this situation is that there are some players on all three teams in which this is the last opportunity they will ever get to play in the conference tournament. This opportunity was taken from them because of the potential threat of losing a place in seeding in the state playoffs. The ‘adults’ in the situation took this opportunity away from all three teams. It does not matter who has the better record or who beat who in regular season. What mattered to the kids was settling who was going to earn the title of Conference Tournament Champions. Unfortunately no one will ever know because of decisions of a few adults trying to keep their seed stable. While we all know this is not fair, we also know that some don’t really care what is or isn’t fair as long as they get the outcome they were looking for. So congratulations to everyone who had a part in not allowing kids to finish playing their conference tournament. Great job for putting out the message “Flight instead of fight!” The ending of the story will still be told as all of these teams compete in the state playoffs. May the best team win!

  16. Gypsie Mike????????. How right you were. I am sure there is a good reason that Wesleyan won over a team of superior D1 pitchers (wink). Maybe they were just setting the rotation for the tournament, maybe the staff is worn out, or maybe Wesleyan is better.

  17. To Baseball Fan. We all really loved your posts throughout the year with all the great details and box score info on HPCA’s games. Can you orovide us some of the same detail for the Friday and Saturday games just completed? Thanks.

  18. Simple solution going forward, although it does no good this year. Simply require each school to purchase a field tarp similar to what the grasshoppers have. Then it can rain all day and if it stops raining at 4:00 or 5:00 pm peel off the tarp and play. Schools have spent plenty on sound systems, brick walls, nets, concession stands, pitching machines, batting cages, laser leveling, etc. the tarp would be an investment that would allow games to be played on beautiful evenings when it’s rained earlier in the day. Of course the tarp would only come in handy if the coaches put it out before the rain.
