College Tennis News – Local Pair Completes Season at Guilford College

GREENSBORO, N.C.- Sophomores Chandler MacDonald (Jamestown, N.C./Western County) and Graham Pearson (Greensboro, N.C./Grimsley) recently concluded her second season as a member of Guilford College’s women’s and men’s tennis teams, respectively.

MacDonald finished the season with a 1-2 singles record in limited singles play and went 4-6 in doubles sction. She went 3-6 with teammate Nora Prokosch at third doubles, 3-3 against Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rivals. She finished with a 5-8 overall record (singles and doubles). MacDonald teamed with Luci Gordon to scored a narrow 8-6 third-doubles victory over a pair from Averett University, which helped the Quakers pull out a 5-4 victory.

MacDonald helped fifth-year coach Dave McCain’s squad to a 6-9 overall record, 4-6 in the ODAC. McCain expects seven letter winners back for the 2016-17 season, including MacDonald.

Pearson, who joined the Quakers in January after starting his college career at North Carolina State University, enjoyed a strong start to his collegiate career and earned 10 total victories. He owned a 4-2 singles record, primarily out of the number-six position where he was 4-1. Pearson paired with sophomore Chasen Chacon to record a 6-9 doubles record at the number-two doubles spot. He was victorious in both singles and doubles play on three occasions, including a pair of victories against 25th-ranked Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC)-rival Washington and Lee University.

Pearson helped McCain’s Quakers to a 5-10 overall record (5-5 ODAC). The team could return as many as nine letterwinners from the 2016 club, including Pearson.
