*****Nate Blakeney hit a Grand Slam home run for Wesleyan in the top of the second inning to get WES rolling and they never looked back…HPCA very big, but WES stronger and Luke Davis, the junior starter for WES went the distance, giving up 8 hits over 7 innings, with just one walk, as he gave the free pass to first man he faced on the day, his opposing pitcher, Luke Gesell(HPCA)…Davis hit one batter and gave up just the one run and that came on a solo home run by Dylan Wilkinson in the bottom of the fourth for the HPCA Cougars…

Blakeney had the Grand Slam and he also made the catch of the day on a running grab near the line in right field robbing Heath Hopkins of a sure double on a ball hit right on the line deep in right…

Blakeney and Davis may have to share Player of the Game honors for WES with a slight nod/edge going to Blakeney….*****

For WES Jacob Kohn with 2 BB’s and a run…Nate Blakeney 2-3 with the Grand Slam, 4 RBI and a run…The Grand Slam hit just above the Yellow Line at the scoreboard in center field…Adam Lassiter 1-4…Matt Nusdeo BB and a run…Cody Proctor 2-3/Double/RBI/Run…Mark McLamb 1-2/BB/Run…

For HPCA:Luke Gesell 1-3/BB…Timmy Fischvoght 1-4…Dylan Wilkinson 2-4/HR…Heath Hopkins 1-3…Brody Lawson 2-3…Shane Harvell 1-2/HBP…

Davis:7 Innings/1 Run/8 Hits/1 BB/3 K’s…

Gesell:5 Innings/5 Runs/4 Hits/6 BB’s/7 K’s..
Wilkinson:2 Innings/0 Runs/2 Hits/0 BB’s/3 K’s…

We may be able a little bit more on this one later on tonight….

  1. Yes McLamb was wearing #1 and he was not in the pre-game handouts, but he was big time on that field today his 1-2, the Walk and the run he scored were all huge in the win…

Wesleyan played good team ball and you have to give Luke Davis a lot of credit. He ran into a few tough spots while out there on the mound, but with the help of his teammates, he cleaned everything up and he worked with a good steady pace and he kept the game moving and when you get a lead and are working with your team in control, the pace of the game is key and he kept it flowing and he had a good rhythm out there on the mound…

Great day for baseball and they were smart to move the games up a couple of days to get around this rain….

Raining tonight and no Grasshoppers baseball on Friday due to rain, but they will play a doubleheader on Saturday, with Game One to begin at 4:30pm…

I hope the Hoppers will have coach Scott Davis and his Trojans downtown to NewBridge Bank Park and recognize them prior to one of the Hoppers’ games and have the Trojans on the field prior to the Hoppers and let the fans see the NCISAA Champs from High Point…

I think that would make for a nice bit of recognition for Wesleyan and with Coach Davis being an N.C. State man and Donald Moore, the Grasshoppers president being an N.C. State man, they ought to be able to work something out..Mr. Moore has done a lot of good things for our local athletes on all levels…

Hope they can get those kids downtown and again Congrats to them and Coach Davis on a great season…

Always good to see one of our local teams win a State Title…Good job this year too by the HPCA Cougars…Coach Gesell has a strong program and they have become a baseball school and a very good one at that…
