HPU baseball earns No. 2 seed in 2016 Big South Baseball Championship

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The High Point University baseball team has earned the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Big South Baseball Championship, the highest-ever seed earned by the Panthers in the Div. I era.

High Point, Longwood and Gardner-Webb all tied for second-place at 14-10, one of two three-way ties in the final Big South standings. HPU will take on No. 7-seed Liberty in the first round of the baseball championship at the Lexington County Baseball Stadium in Lexington, S.C., at 9:30 a.m., on Tuesday, May 24. The Panthers dropped two of three games to Liberty at Williard Stadium in the final series of the regular season.

The No. 2-seed earned by High Point bests the previous high seed of No. 3 that the Panthers earned in 2013.

Coastal Carolina earned the top overall seed in the Big South tournament with a 21-3 conference mark. The Chanticleers will attempt to win their first Big South championship since 2012 and 14th overall.

Presbyterian College, Winthrop and Liberty finished tied at 12-12. The Blue Hose, who will make their first appearance in the Big South Championship since joining the conference, are the No. 5 seed, followed by the Eagles at No. 6 and Flames at No. 7. Radford claimed the No. 8 seed with its 9-15 Big South finish.
