Sixth-inning lead change vaults Wheatmore past Western Guilford, 6-5

A tight game was decided in the sixth inning as Western Guilford fell to Wheatmore 6-5 in six innings on Wednesday.Smith got the win for Wheatmore. He allowed four runs over two innings. Smith struck out five, walked five and gave up one hit. Wheatmore was sparked by Hernandez and Hodge, who teamed up for five hits and two RBIs. Richter couldn’t get it done on the mound for Western Guilford, taking a loss. He lasted just one inning, walked none, struck out none, and allowed five runs. The bottom of the first saw Western Guilford take an early lead, 1-0. After posting one run in the fourth, Wheatmore again scored one in the sixth. In the fourth, Wheatmore scored on an RBI single by Hernandez, plating Wilson.

Comeback kills Western Guilford’s hopes in 7-6 loss to Page 2

Western Guilford led by four runs in the seventh inning, but Page two put together a furious comeback to steal the victory, 7-6, on Wednesday at Page. Dilday did his best to prevent defeat. Dilday reached base three times. He singled in the fifth and seventh innings. Dilday baffled Page two, striking out nine batters. Dilday allowed no earned runs, two hits and no walks over six innings. Bowman recorded the win for Page two. He allowed two runs over 1 2/3 innings. He struck out none, walked none and surrendered four hits. Paul was charged with the loss. He lasted just one-third of an inning, walked none, struck out none, and allowed five runs. Western Guilford broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning, pushing across fourth. Western Guilford scored on a three-run double by Cruz. Page two scored one run of its own in the fifth. Page two scored on a groundout by Darnell. After a quick strike from Western Guilford, Page two responded with five runs in the seventh. Page two scored on an RBI single by Hughes, an RBI double by Weathersby, an RBI double by Cade Darnell, a passed ball, and Weathersby scored on passed ball, Darnell scored on last play.

A passed ball helps Grimsley get past Burlington Williams 6-4

A bases loaded walk, scoring #19 gave Grimsley the lead in the sixth inning, and Grimsley hung on to beat Burlington Williams 6-4 on Wednesday. Grimsley held off Burlington Williams, as Burlington Williams was unable to overcome a three-run seventh inning deficit. Burlington Williams scored one run in the seventh on a fielder’s choice. Unfortunately, Burlington Williams wasn’t able to take the lead back. Taylor Hanover got the win for Grimsley. He allowed three runs over three innings. Hanover struck out two, walked one and gave up four hits. Kevin Scott couldn’t get it done on the rubber for Burlington Williams, taking a loss. He lasted just two innings, walked one, struck out three, and allowed no runs. The bottom of the first saw Burlington Williams take an early lead, 2-0. After Bailey Sartin singled, Will Davis doubled, bringing home Sartin. Burlington Williams then tacked on more runs when Davis scored on an error. Burlington Williams brought home one run in the third inning, and matched that run total in the seventh. In the third, Burlington Williams scored on an RBI single by Alberto Bernal, scoring Sartin. Grimsley went up for good in the sixth, scoring four runs on an error and an RBI single by Jake Bloss. Grimsley piled on two more runs in the top of the seventh. A sacrifice fly scored Devon Snyder to get Grimsley on the board in the inning. That was followed up by Hanover’s single, bringing home Gus Hughes.

Chatham Charter can’t stop Ragsdale’s sixth inning rally in 9-5 loss

Ragsdale took the lead in the sixth inning, and Chatham Charter was unable to muster a comeback, losing 9-5 in seven innings on Wednesday at Stoner White. Greenwood was hot from the plate for Chatham Charter. Greenwood went 2-3, drove in one and scored one run. He singled in the second inning and tripled in the seventh inning. Ben Harris recorded the win for Ragsdale. He allowed four runs over five innings. He struck out one, walked none and surrendered five hits. Ragsdale was sparked by Louis Salgado and Luke Pritchett, who teamed up for three hits and two RBIs. Greenwood ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. He lasted just three innings, walked five, struck out three, and allowed four runs. The top of the first saw Chatham Charter take an early lead, 3-0. Chatham Charter’s rally started when Grayson Chaney doubled. A stolen base then moved Chaney from second to third. Chatham Charter added more runs when Gonzalez scored on an RBI double by Dawson Purvis and Purvis scored on an error. Ragsdale tied the game in the second on an RBI single by Jon Spillman that scored Salgado. Chatham Charter scored one run in the third inning, and then followed it up with one more in the seventh. In the third, Chatham Charter scored on a fielder’s choice, scoring Connor Murphy. The lead stayed with Ragsdale after the sixth, when it scored five runs on two singles.
