Forest City, N.C. – After regaining the lead in the top of the fourth inning it was smooth sailing for the High Point-Thomasville HiToms (13-6) in a 10-4 victory at the Forest City Owls (9-8).
Derek Scheible continued his hot streak at the plate with a doube in the top of the first and was brought in on a RBI single by Daniel Sullivan.
The Owls would get the run back on a solo homer to left by Daniel Neal in his Coastal Plain League debut.
In the top of three, Scheible unknotted the score with a two-run blast over the 25-foot wall in left field for his second homer of the season.
It looked like it was going to be a back and forth affair when Forest City tied the game in its half of the third on RBI knocks by Weston Jackson and James Meeker.
The turning point was in the top of the fourth when Coll Stanley rolled an RBI single into right field pushing the HiToms back in front 4-3.
Daniel McCrary (1-1) lasted five innings on the mound letting up seven hits but he picked up six strikeouts. The HiToms continued to hit Alex Evans (1-2) for seven earned runs.
Drew Frederic dropped a base hit down the right field line and turned it into a 2-RBI double in the top of the sixth. A RBI single by Brad Jarreau followed to put the HiToms ahead 7-3 heading into the Owl half of the inning.
Kael Jones came in out of the bullpen and walked the bases loaded. Ryan Owens cleaned up the jam with a strikeout and forcing a inning-ending double play.
The exclamation point came in the top of the ninth when Hunter Slater connected on his first homer of the year to comfortably make it 10-4 HiToms and that was the final score. Owens in 4 innings of relief work registered his first save.
The HiToms return home on a six-game winning streak to greet the Florence Red Wolves at 7:00 p.m.
