High Point Post 87 HiToms outlast Greensboro in high-scoring affair, 11-9

High Point Post 87 HiToms and Greensboro lit up the scoreboard on Monday as they combined for 20 runs. In the end, High Point Post 87 HiToms won the offensive battle 11-9.

The teams combined for 28 hits, including eight extra base hits.

The teams traded runs for most of the contest, leading to nine lead changes in the game.

High Point Post 87 HiToms took the lead in the seventh inning and held on for the victory. High Point Post 87 HiToms scored on a two-run home run by Nick Goard off Coble, plating Timmy Fischvogt.

High Point Post 87 HiToms hit three home runs in the win. Additional home runs for High Point Post 87 HiToms came when Evan Edwards homered in the fourth inning and Steve Guy homered in the sixth inning.

Zach Britton got it done on the bump on the way to a win. He allowed two runs over 2 1/3 innings. Britton struck out one, walked two and gave up three hits.

High Point Post 87 HiToms’ Goard, Guy, Dylan Wilkinson and Edwards combined for nine hits and nine RBIs.

High Point Post 87 HiToms closer Wilkinson put away the final five outs to record the save.

The bottom of the first saw Greensboro take an early lead, 1-0. Robinson doubled to start things off before Hobbs singled, scoring Robinson.

Greensboro got one-run rallies in the second inning and the ninth. In the second, Greensboro scored on an RBI single by Bowman, plating Brothers.

Greensboro survived High Point Post 87 HiToms’ surge and put up two runs of its own in the third. Greensboro scored on an RBI single by L. Robinson and a fielder’s choice.

High Point Post 87 HiToms pushed across three runs in both the fourth inning and the sixth. In the fourth, High Point Post 87 HiToms scored on a three-run home run by Edwards, bringing home Goard and Luke Spiva.

Greensboro scored two runs in the fifth inning, and then followed it up with two more in the sixth. In the fifth, Greensboro scored on a two-run double by Rodrigez, scoring Brothers and McDade.

After pushing across one run in the bottom of the ninth, Greensboro faced just a 11-9 deficit. A fielder’s choice fueled Greensboro’s comeback. But, Wilkinson got Zarate to ground out to end the game.
