HPU women’s soccer exhibition at UNC Wilmington ends 0-0

• High Point and UNC Wilmington played to a scoreless draw in both teams’ first exhibition action of 2016.
• Junior Alex Hank had four first-half saves in the shutout of the Seahawks.
• The Panthers will play their second and final exhibition game of the season at home on Aug. 13 against South Carolina.

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The High Point University women’s soccer team played UNC Wilmington to a 0-0 draw in exhibition action on Thursday night in Wilmington, N.C. The exhibition game was the first of two for the Panthers before the start of the regular season.

Returning Big South Defensive Player of the Year Alex Hank made four saves for HPU while playing the first half in goal. Sophomore Emily Lyon and redshirt-freshman Charlotte Kennedy split time in net in the second half and maintained the clean sheet against a UNCW team that scored 50 goals in 23 games last season.

The Seahawks outshot High Point, 12-1, and held a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks but were unable to breakdown an organized Panther defense.

High Point returns home to play host to South Carolina in the Panthers’ second exhibition game of 2016 on Saturday, Aug. 13. Kickoff for the game is set for 7 p.m., and admission is free.
