Scott Young, the former head coach at West Rowan High School and until Friday, the current head coach at Charlotte Independence High School is now out/gone and this all comes the week the high school football season is set to start/begin…
A crazy move on most counts, firing your new head coach before he has even coached his first game and he knows football coaching, if your’e going back to West Rowan, having won three straight NCHSAA 3-A State Titles there, from 2008-2010….
He had heart problems and stepped down at West Rowan, as he awaited a chance at a heart transplant and this past Spring, he was hired as the new head coach at Independence in Charlotte, after the Patriots head coach, Justin Hardin, stepped away to be a defensive coordinator at Charlotte Latin High School…
Independence has a great track record for winning state titles, as the Patriots rang up 7 consecutive 4-A crowns, under the leadership of Tom Knotts back in 2000-20006…Independence is set to play Tom Knotts current team, Dutch Fork, this Friday night…
Back on the heart-to-heart with Scott Young, the young coach(44 years old) who was fired last last week at Independence, he received a new heart back in the Spring and it looked as if he was primed to coach Independence this Fall and primed to do well, with a new team and a new heart…
He had missed time back in the Spring with of the necessary surgery and recovery and he missed occasional practices due to doctor’s visits that had him in for post-op and check-ups…
Young’s dad died early last week and he missed time to deal with major issue and many felt that with Young’s prior health issues, Independence looked at Young as liability, but Young insists that he is fine and was ready to coach full-steam again….He has a son and daughter at Independence and they both are involved in sports and Young can stay on and teach at Independence is he so chooses, but how easy would that be, you get fired and you end up sticking around at the spot where they gave you the boot….
Is Young healthy???
He says yes…
Independence saw something here that did not meet their approval and Young says it wasn’t about his health, but Indy may see this all differently…
One thing is a certainty and it has been proven….
Young is a winner, Three Straight State Titles and the Cat/Kid can coach….
What is going on down there in Charlotte, at Independence???
We will have to wait and see, but this is a mystery to me and that is why we chose to write something about it on this Sunday…..We have always found the Independence football program and what Tom Knotts did there, of interest…..
*****Tom Knotts newest team Dutch Fork, South Carolina vs. Tom Knotts one of Tom Knotts old Charlotte teams, Independence this Friday night and you have to be thinking there is a good chance Independence will get their butts kicked vs. Knotts and with newly named head coach that will in charge for all of at a maximum of four days if he gets named and hired on Monday…..*****
