Playing in what could be the Longest Running Thanksgiving Day Football Game in Guilford County

This game has been going on for over 25 years….I can remember back when Doug Brown and Joey Kirkman first got in this game they were 17 years old, now they are 37….

Grayson Holland has played in this game 3-4 years and he is only in the 5th grade…

You can see kids grow up in this game and young men, become grown men.

You see QB’s like Scott Cooper who can run the field and take over the game from a wide-out spot on offense, but this year Coop settled in at quarterback, throwing the ball on the money, for money/turkey and finding open receivers all day long…

The final score was something like 16-10 and that means 16 TD’s to 10…

Cooper was leading his receivers and finding Enad Haddad, Doug Brown and Joey Kirkman open and the lead passes Cooper was throwing the receivers, led them perfectly into the end zone…

Grayson Holland may still be a kid, but he has some of the best hand-eye coordination that you will ever see. Enad Haddad and Scott Holland have been working with Grayson and the kid will be on somebody’s high school team in about 6-7 years…..Kid could be a “can’t miss catch”, if he keeps on catching….

On the opposite side of the field, on the other side of the line, Chuck’s Team was on the short end of the 16-10 final, but they were not short on talent…

Chuck’s son Jamir and Jamir’s friend from Ragsdale High School are another couple of up-and-coming-kids….Jamir has matured and become a very solid possession receiver, much like Grayson Holland and the kid from Ragsdale needs to be playing for Coach Tommy Norwood next season…Kid from Ragsdale, is just a freshman, but the kid is big and he can move…

Chuck went through all of his QB progressions the he had planned before the game, but he found his inside routes were more open to men like Kevin Colvin and Scott Holland and Chuck was seeing Scott Cooper, through his open-air windshield, as Cooper doesn’t hit the Pick Six Mark on the Bulls Eye, but Scott Cooper set a new Thanksgiving Day record and picked off Five passes this morning….

Chuck’s brother from N.C. A&T was back for the second straight year and the list rolls on for, “Through the Years”, with Kevin Colvin, Doug Brown, Joey Kirkman, Scott Cooper, Chuck, Chuck’s son Jamir, Enad Haddad, Scott Holland and Scott’s son Grayson, all being with the game a number of years now…

Weather-wise it was a perfect day. The rain from the night before made the field slick in spots, but overall, the conditions were near-perfect…

What better way is there to spend a Thanksgiving morning that playing a good game of competitive football???

We probably need to give our “Golden Gobbler Award” to Tom Palumbo this year…Tom is the Guilford College AD and we have played on that field, on New Garden Road, for quite a few years now…Thanks Tom and thanks to the Guilford College security staff…

Enad Haddad announced that today would be his last game ever…You get the feeling Enad might be fibbing….Not fricking fibbing, but just fibbing…Enad is too young to retire on the spot, like he did on the surface today…

Haddad had 7 touchdowns in the Thursday morning showdown and that might be one reason why he is considering leaving the game, but there have been rumors that several teams in Winston-Salem are interested in his services…Leaving Greensboro and going to Winston-Salem on Thanksgiving morning??? Heaven Forbid!!!

If Scott Cooper is back, Kevin Colvin is back, Doug Brown is back, Joey Kirkman is back, Chuck and Jamir are back, Chuck’s brother and Jamir’s friend are back, if Grayson Holland doesn’t get picked up by Ricky Proehl and the Panthers, Grayson and his dad Scott will be back…

Next season should be a good one, this group of football playing friends have become like a Thanksgiving Football Family…

Life goes on and this Thanksgiving Day Football tradition continues and it is part of our lives…

The Longest Running Thanksgiving Day Football Game in Guilford County??? Maybe not, but it is the Best!!!

*****We have some good young talent and some good old talent, and the right kind of talent mixed in-between…*****

+++++Some of you might say we have been playing Thanksgiving Day Football Games in your backyard for many years, but that doesn’t count….We are playing Real Football on a Real Football Field…Our game has become, “The Guilford County Thanksgiving Day Tradition”….We hope to have Governor Pat McCrory joining us next year, so he can officially make the “Governor’s Proclamation”, regarding this game….If Governor McCrory is no longer in office, we may ask Scott Copper, to act as Roy Copper….+++++

  1. Let’s just start by saying in 2013 you said this was the 21st year. In 2016 all of a sudden it’s the 25th year and longest running of Guilford county. we started in 1992 I have been going strong ever since on an actual football field and no not in a backyard. If anything I will give you guys 24 years and us 24 years stop trying to boast something you don’t have. I can show you the link of the 21st year in 2013 if you would like??

  2. I don’t need a link, I need a doctor…

If we got going 1992 we should be right at 25 years….

The public will recognize our group because we are the Best There Was, The Best There Is and the Best There Ever Will Be….Circa coming in by of Bret Hart….
