Game Report on Southwest Guilford-Westchester Country Day Boys Basketball:Kameron Langley with a Triple-Double to lead SWG Cowboys

In the nightcap of opening night of the Sheetz Holiday Classic, the hosting Cowboys of Southwest Guilford faced off against the Wildcats of Westchester Country Day School.

The Cowboys were on a roll before Christmas, winners of 7 in a row by an average margin of 34 points. The Wildcats last played over a week before Christmas, and it was a solid victory over Burlington Christian School. How will the long lay off between game action effect the teams?

Right after the tip the Cowboys knocked down a 3 pointer to go up 3-0, a steal and a layup made it 5-0 just 1 minute into the game. But the Wildcats took a 5-0 spurt to tie the game back up at 5 apiece. After the teams traded baskets again, a Cooper Cunningham 3 pointer gave the Cowboys the lead for good at 10-7 at the 5:40 mark. The Wildcats responded with a basket of their own, but Cunningham hit another of his 5 3-pointers of the frame to make it 13-9 at the 5:20 mark. From there the Cowboys pulled off back-to-back highlight dunks that ignited the crowd. It was part of a 16-0 run that was only 2:00 of game time taking us to 26-9 at the 3:38 mark. The opening blitz of the Cowboys closed the frame at 41-17.

The Wildcats wouldn’t let the game slip away as they had the hot shooter in the second quarter. In fact, the Wildcats outscored Southwest as they gave lackluster effort on both sides of the ball. The halftime tally was 59-36.

The second half opened with yet another Cunningham 3 pointer, followed by a Keyshaun Langley 3 pointer and it was 65-36 just 45 seconds into the third quarter. From there the frame was back and forth, and the Wildcats ended the frame on a 3 pointer of their own making it 78-49.

The final stanza was discombobulated, but again won by the hosting Cowboys as they hit the century mark on the night taking the final tally to 100-64. The Cowboys improve to 9-1 on the year, and advance to face off against Lexington tomorrow night at 7:30.

Westchester was led by LJ McCoy with 32 points. Southwest placed 4 in double figures including Kameron Langley’s triple double.
