College Men’s Golf Results – Guilford 13th After 18 Holes at Discover DeKalb Emory Invitational

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – Guilford College shot 309 in Saturday’s first round of the Discover DeKalb Emory Invitational. The 20th-ranked Quakers sit in 13th place among 15 squads halfway through the event at the par-70, 6,510-yard Smoke Rise Country Club.

Huntingdon College, ranked first in the latest Golfstat.com NCAA Division III Head-to-Head Relative Rankings, holds a two-stroke lead over the host Eagles after shooting 289 Saturday. Berry College sits third, three strokes off the lead and three strokes ahead of Rhodes College and Methodist University, who share the fourth-place position.

Guilford rookie Zachary Evens drained three birdies on his way to a two-over-par 72 and shares 11th place among individuals. Evens had five bogeys and 10 pars in his team-best round. Harrison Frye’s 78 was the Quakers’ next-best round, followed by Josh Hill’s 79 and Kendall Dunn’s 80. Kell Graham turned in an 81 and Ty Palmer, playing as an individual, shot 79.

Berry’s Ryan Elmore made a hole in one on the 190-yard par-three 11th hole and shares the lead with Huntingdon’s Will Thrash and Greensboro College individual Luke Grogan. All three competitors shot one-under 69 to lead the 87-man field. Huntingdon’s Addison Lambeth, the top-ranked Division III golfer according to Golfstat.com, headlines a trio one shot off the lead. Ferrum College’s Brandon Bailey and LaGrange College’s Logan Lanier, Golfstat’s second-ranked golfer, also shot 70 on Saturday.

The tournament, which includes nine teams ranked among Golfstat.com’s top-20 Division III schools, concludes Sunday with 18 holes.
