Game Report on Northwest Guilford-Greensboro Day School Girls Basketball:Kitley, Kargo, Gibbs and Gauldin lead Vikes to win #17

+++++In Middle School Boys Basketball we have Kiser defeating Swann Middle today/Monday.+++++See more below…

Final:
Northwest Guilford 66, Greensboro Day School 37
NWG(17-2)/GDS(10-12)
End of 1st Q:GDS 12, NWG 12…Halftime:NWG 35, GDS 20…End of 3rd Q:NWG 52, GDS 19…Final:NWG 66, GDS 37…

NWG scoring:
Liz Kitley 27 points, Reagan Kargo 16 points, Bria Gibbs 8 points, Lindsay Gauldin 6 points, Kamryn Pegram 3 points, Shaena Riddles 2 points, Hannah Baker 2 points, Megan Harkey 2 points….
GDS scoring:
Caroline Wyrick 11 points, Mahlon Brady 6 points, Maddy Murdock 6 points, Chloe Brewington 5 points, Hailey Blackwell 4 points, Je’Bria Fullwood 3 points, Ava Rembach 2 points……

*****Tight game early and then in the second quarter, NWG started going inside to Liz Kitley and she ended up with 18 first-half points and a number of rebounds to go with the points….Reagan Kargo got hot outside and hit an NBA and beyond three-pointer to close the first 16 minutes and she hot for the game from three-point land with 4 treys for the game….

Lindsay Gauldin was getting penetration and she was able to find Big Liz and Bria Gibbs open inside and Greensboro Day had no answer for the Vikings’ inside game, and GDS had no recourse to offer up to stop NWG, except foul the Vikings hard and make them earn it at the line and we have Kitley with 7 made free throws, plus Kargo with 2, Gibbs with 2 and Gauldin with 1 and I guess you can say, the Vikings were earning their keep at the line, with a total of 12 made free throws and I would say, Big Liz was in the neighborhood of 7 for 10 at the line and to get 70% from a 6’5 female post player, I would take that all night long if I was Coach Joyner, just get her up there more and let her make some more, and as the season rolls on and gets longer, Liz will be able to put her stamp on that Free Throw line….

‘Little Lindsay’ with a good job of running the club/the show out front and again, Kargo is one of the best from long-range in the state, plus Bria Gibbs is getting ‘all ball’ with her tough take-away defense and if she ties you up, it is your life or the ball, and you better give it(the ball) up…The young Vikings saw some good minutes and the effort from Baker, Riddles, Gibbs, ‘Little Kamryn’ Pegram and ‘Big Megan’ Harkey did not go unnoticed….

If I am buying Greensboro Day School Bengal girls basketball stock, I want as many shares as I can get of Carolina Wyrick and Je’Bria Fullwood….Load us up on them, because they are part of girls basketball in the future, in the city(Greensboro)…..Wyrick has a great outside shot and she was hitting it early, but she got away from it, or it was taken away from her, as the first 8 minutes of the game had expired….She never really got the long-ball going again and it might have been the NWG defense stepping up, to slow her down, but she was on fire early, with two three’s in the first quarter, but just three total three’s for the game…..Fullwood is tough out there and she can play like a wild bull and that is a good thing, because she plays hard all of the time she is on the court and if she continues to do that, she will be a game-changer…Wyrick-Fullwood and GDS got good minutes from Hailey Blackwell, but based on what I saw from her last year over at Kernolde Middle, she can do better and she needs to become a bigger and more aggressive part of the GDS offense….

Talked to Cayla King, the Virginia Tech commit, from Northwest Guilford and the rehab on her knee is coming along nicely…She can practice some now and run up and down the court with the team and she is well on her way back to a full recovery and could be playing again before the end of this season, it just depends on the word from her physical therapy people, her coaches will provide their input and Virginia Tech may have a word on the return too, and who knows, they may want to see her back out there on the basketball court during her junior year, so they can evaluate for themselves how far she has progressed since her surgery last year/late Spring-early Summer of 2017…..The ‘King Kid’ is doing good and it appears to me that she has had a great attitude all the way along, on her road to recovery….NWG would sure be glad to have her back….She is wearing the big brace in training and in practice sessions, but the big brace is working and helping Cayla King on her “Road to Recovery”…..*****

$$$$$ Good being able to take the road over to Northwest Guilford tonight, because you can save on gas, staying closer to home, and hit the New Garden Road library for the game report work after the game…..$$$$$
