*****The girls game was stopped/halted with 3:32 left in the first quarter and the Dillard Athletic Center was evacuated due to a fire alarm signal, that sent all of the fans outside and the problem that led to the fire detector going off, was the popcorn machine becoming too hot/overheating and that might have been caused due to increased popcorn sales with the gathering of a Sell Out Crowd….The fire signal went off and the fans went outside, but within 10-15 minutes all fans were able to return into the Dillard Athletic Center, go back to their seats, and the girl’s game resumed…..*****

  1. Andy please correct the Wesleyan GDS girls as it was Wesleyan 77 and gds 43. Wesleyans boys and girls are undefeated in the pacis.

  2. Yes, I wrote that WES-GDS girls score down two different ways…Lots of numbers to keep up with tonight with WES-GDS girls and then WES-GDS boys and then over to Grimsley to catch the very end of the Page-Grimsley boys game….

Both Hoards played well for WES tonight and Aaron Wiggins had a very good game once worked his way around that foul trouble…The Langleys looked good and the thing that impresses me the most about the Langley twins is the way that they rebound…They do a great job on the boards for guards….

GDS runs long offensive sets with lots of passing and when they make a lot of passes and take a lot of time off of the clock and you are down 10-15 points and your shots are not falling those long sets with time off the clock and misses will catch up with you…

GDS has John Newman stepping up, but with Will Dillard down and out of the lineup, GDS must get other players to start contributing and helping John Newman…He can’t do it all himself, he needs some help…If he stays hot all is good, but if he runs into a cold streak, it can be trouble for GDS, if nobody else is taking over for the Bengals….

  4. Shout out to the defensive and energy starters out there. It is amazing how just one player down can (and does) disrupt your entire team in basketball. GDS has lost more games in the past two weeks than I remember GDS losing per year over the past 5 years. It is a credit to how hard Will Dillard works on the floor. Freddy is a defensive coach and a believer in ball control. With Dillard out, GDS is missing that one player that every team needs who is willing to put it all on the line defensively versus the average player that always wants to score. Every team needs that guy that can bring a high level of energy with every play. Dillard is that guy on both points. Each team in the city has these type of players. Teams that don’t have these type of players are likely having a losing season. Hopefully Dillard can make it back before the playoffs and help get a great GDS team back on track. The league and state playoffs are simply too good to survive without top level players.

  5. I went to the Page-Grimsley games last night. When I walk into the Grimsley gym and see the banners from the early 1900’s I feel like I’m in a sacred place. The rivalry attracts a large crowd, and the student sections are packed, energetic, rowdy, and engaged. At half-time, the Grimsley band played and Page student section stood — and turned their backs!

When the game ended after a narrow Page win, the Grimsley students threw trash at the Page students. Messy, but harmless.

The rivalry helps create a strong connection to their school for the students. When they graduate, they will take that connection with them, and it will ground them. It’s a beautiful thing.

  6. I second Page parent even though the trash throwing was a little excessive its always a great rivalry i graduated from Page and my kids from grimsley and its still great cookout and barbershop conversation. All in fun Go Pirates/Whirlies

  7. Seems like some of the kids could hurt getting hit in the head with those drink bottles…How did it get out of hand, did the crowd rush the floor or the stands?
