**********Martin Samek has decided to leave Winston-Salem Parkland as the head football coach after six years to become the head coach at Rolesville High School in Wake County.**********

Samek helped guide the Mustangs to an 11-2 record and a second-round appearance in the NCHSAA Class 3-AA playoffs. After finishing 0-11 in his first two years at Parkland, he completed his six-year run with a record of 27-43.

WS Parkland athletic director Linwood Jerald on Martin Samek leaving Parkland:
“It’s a shock, but people want to hire people that are successful,” Jerald said. “If you’re 3-7 or 2-8, you know, nobody’s going to hire you. He’s put the train on a good solid track. We’ve been able to do some things.”

Samek will be replacing Wilson Helms, the former assistant coach under Kevin Gillespie, at Page High School, in Greensboro….Helms is the son of former Southeast Guilford head coach Ken Helms….
